More on Rutherford
Let me start out by repeating that I am not in favor of losing or firing Jim Rutherford. I just think that since he is the man at the top, and since the Canes haven't made the playoffs in 4 out of the past 5 years, he should be called out first.
In this recent interview, it sounds like he is well aware that changes need to be made on defense. Nice job by Mike Maniscalco and 99.9 The Fan.

I am really glad to hear that he is thinking about getting a better blue liner out there. But I also think that we need a consistent back-up goalie, like you said before, or even a shared starting goalie. The sharks did it a year ago with Vesa Toskala and Evgeni Nabokov and it worked out very well for them. Think, if we had a Huet for backup, then we would be golden. I don’t know, just something to think about. I know that we obviously would not be picking up Huet himself, but maybe someone like him?

1) In the New NHL the difference between playoff team and outsider can be(was)razor thin. Therefore be wary about making whole sale changes that can set you back for 3-4 years
2) The over all health of the franchise talent-wise is secure. Some tweaks of course and hopefully better luck injury wise will take the canes from almost ran to playoff team next year

AGH!
"The talk is the Carolina Hurricanes are going to give coach Peter Laviolette his walking papers according to a report in the Ottawa Sun.
If they do, Laviolette could end up with the Atlanta Thrashers.

No! Make this go away!
It’s some sort of late April Fool’s joke right? Right?!

Sounds like someone’s trying to liven things up on a slow news day. I’m not worried….
