Record Setting Night in Albany
Game five in the series between the Albany River Rats and Philadelphia Phantoms was one for the record books. First of all, it was the longest game in AHL history as it lasted 5 overtimes! Secondly, Rats goalie Michael Leighton made a record, 98 saves! Yes, 98...that is not a typo.
Unfortunately for the Rats, they lost the game 3-2 which gives the Phantoms a 3-2 lead in the series.
Just 1809 fans watched what could have been the best game in AHL history.

I was one of the I would say about 200 or so people who were there till the end. Let me tell you the Rats gave it there all. It was so fantastic, and a shame they could not put it away. Michael “Lights” Leighton was in his form. I will have photos up on webshots.com I have a feeling that he will be in the NHL next year. Michael was the top AHL goalie including spending some time in Carolina. He is a gem.

It must really have been some game to watch. Hopefully, you didn’t have to get up early the next day.
I agree that Leighton is a gem. I thought that he out-played Grahame during the preseason and when he was up here this year. But Grahame’s inflated contract helped him to stay in Raleigh.
It should be a great game 7 on Tuesday night!
