USA, Russia, and Canada Win Openers

Team Canada opened their tournament with a 5-1 win over Slovenia as Dany Heatley had a hat-trick. Cam Ward only allowed one goal and that was while the opposition had a 5 on 3 advantage. Next up for the home team is Latvia on Sunday. For more info check out this link.

Team USA also won their first match with a 4-0 win over Latvia. The Americans outshot their opponents 49-24. The youngsters once again provided the scoring as Patrick Kane, Zach Parise, Dustin Brown, and Patrick O'Sullivan each had a goal. Boston's Tim Thomas earned the shutout. Check here for a game recap. Next up for this group is Slovenia on Sunday.

Team Russia pulverized Team Italy 7-1 and it could have been worse as Sergei Fedorov had 2 supposed goals waived off. Their next game on Sunday will be a bit tougher as they play the Czechs.

1) Just a side note: The Flyers who made the Final 4 of the NHL had FEWER wins than your Canes. Just shows how close all those teams are. By virtue of a few more OT/SO losses the Flyers are still playing hockey in May and Carolina has been watching for a month already. Amazing.
