Product Review - Snapple Antioxidant Water

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by a representative of Snapple and was asked if I would be interested in trying out some of their antioxidant water. They also asked if I would be kind enough to review their product in a posting on the Canes Country blog.

The first thing that came to my mind as I was reading the email, is that these people are either crazy, or must be pretty darn confident of their products. It's brave of them, asking a complete stranger who goes by the name of "Bubba" on a hockey blog, to critique their drinks. What's to stop me from trashing their product completely, just for the fun of it?

But they do have a great product and a very reputable name to go along with it. I have been a fan of Snapple drinks since I first heard of them while watching the Howard Stern show, 15 to 20 years ago up in New York. Not only was Stern a radio icon, but for a short time he had a very funny television show that aired on Saturday nights and he plugged Snapple every chance he could.

I'm also at the age where I need to start drinking healthy stuff every once in awhile, so I thought that it would be a good idea to try these drinks out.

Seriously, my number one drink of choice while exercising, jogging, or playing tennis is water. But these drinks are supposed to be better than water, in that they replenish lost vitamins, electrolytes, can provide more energy, and can protect the immune system. It also certainly tastes better than water.

I assume that it is supposed to be similar in that respect to Gatorade, although in my opinion, my favorite flavor of Snapple Water, the Tropical Mango, tastes better than any of the Gatorade that I've ever had.

I'm no scientist or physician, but I did read the nutrition facts on each bottle for comparison sake. The calories, sugar content, and carbs are about the same per serving, but Gatorade has 110mg of sodium per serving while the Snapple Antioxidant Water has 0mg. My wife keeps telling me that sodium is not good for me, so I'm guessing that the much lower sodium content is another advantage.

Bottom line, if you are looking for something different and need a drink after you workout, or exercise, or work up a sweat in some other way, give this Snapple Antioxidant Water a try. It's good for you and it tastes great. My favorite flavors were the Tropical Mango and Strawberry Acai. My least favorite was the Grape.

One thing, when you sweat, you loss salt in your body. That sodium in Gatorade is replacing what your body is loosing. So sodium in this content is not as bad for you.Its helps to keep your eletrolites? balanced.
