Boychuk the Man for Carolina

The Carolina Hurricanes selected Zach Boychuk with the 14th pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Boychuk was noted as being one of the quickest players in all of the major junior leagues. He scored 33 goals and had 72 points in just 61 games for Lethbridge last year. The only question with Zach is his smallish, 5'9 frame.

Sought after defenseman Colton Teubert was selected at number 13 by Los Angeles. How many defensemen do the Kings need? Looks like the Canes should have traded up a bit if they really wanted Teubert.

It was also mentioned during the draft show that the Canes were talking with the Vancouver Canucks regarding defenseman Kevin Bieksa. We'll see how that works out.

(update...) More about Boychuk here and here.

on the tsn coverage, they said that bieksa to the canes was a rumour, and that they would send cole, williams or ruutu in return. what do you think of that?

whoops – I see you already have that covered!

Personally, I’m not as high on Bieksa as I am on Pitkanen, but if they traded Cole the money would be about even. (Bieksa’s cap hit is 3.75M)

Who knows how much money Pitkanen wants?

I still can’t make up my mind who they would be better off trading, Cole or Ruutu. I guess it depends upon how long they can sign Ruutu for and for how much.

give me cole for pitkanen… I know its not the “fashionable” thing to do… but I want some grit on this team. Sign Hordicuk and add Pitkanen with Ruutu and a guy like Walker! With a guy like Boychuk… we have speed and grit(I dont think boychuk wil see any actual play time this year however). We NEED a tough 4th line. Lets see what happens over the next 4 days. Any chance we can afford Orpick? I doubt it… but man, I can dream….

I just really hope Williams stays a ’Cane. Cole is a fan favorite… but Williams is the glue that holds this team together.

Orpik?!?!?!?!? If you plan on putting Orpik on the roster you better trade Cole!!!!

looks like we passed on Jared Staal to pick up another Zac.

Cricket- I am fine with that! We need some defense! especially having a guy like Leighton as our backup. I trust he will do just fine, but nothing is guaranteed.
