Free Bird - Tanabe and Hamilton Cut Loose
LSB is reporting that David Tanabe and Jeff Hamilton have both been placed on waivers, with the intention of a buy-out. These are two of the players which we listed as buy-out possibilities a week or so ago right here at Canes Country.
Of course Tanabe has been injured and couldn't play for several weeks at the end of last season. The Canes must be using the evidence that his medical tests have come back clean, and are disregarding his symptoms if they are taking the position that he is healthy.
This sounds like it could get messy. Hopefully, Bubba won't be drawn into the impending lawsuit.
More news as it happens...
Ciao!

what is most puzzling is how Tanabe has handled all of this. It seems like he just threw his hands up in the air and walked away. the way this organization works, you would have to think if he had at least communicated some with management, they woudl have worked with him on this situation. There again, we are only getting one side of this…….

I agree that the whole thing is puzzling. The way that Tanabe has reportedly been acting, it seems like he is ticked off at the organization for some reason, but who knows why?

Who would pick up Tanabe in waivers. He is “hurt”

Was not expecting that out of Hordichuck. I thought he would fit in perfectly with Carolina. The only thing I can think of is that he is really serious about working his way up into a 3rd line guy, and with all the forwards we have here… he didnt see it happening. Cant blame the guy, I just really wanted to see him in Red and White.

Thomas – no one is supposed to pick him up, but they have to put him on waivers to buy out his contract.

Thomas-
No one will pick him up, but that is the required first step in the buy out process.
(edit-thanks Ben, you beat me to it)

It surprises me as well. I thought signing him would be a slam dunk. If you are correct, I don’t get his thinking because he has never been good enough to be a 3rd line player, why would he be now?
I wonder if he can go to arbitration, and who gets stuck paying the award? Since the Canes own his rights, probably the Canes. This could be the trade that never stops giving.

i don’t think arbitration is involved when it comes to UFA’s – I think that only applies to RFA’s, since a UFA can just walk away from any offer he doesn’t like whereas an RFA is bound to the team unless he gets an offer sheet.
I could be wrong, however.
