And there's the first firing of the season. A very curious move by the Blackhawks, though Joel Quenneville is a very, very good coach — and his moustache will go over well with these guys.

wow, this after a win last night.. I wonder what they’re thinking.
and in other shocking news, Gaborik is out with a lower body injury. How far behind can Martin Havlat be?

1) Perhaps the writing was on the wall when they hired Quenville? You don’t hire a guy with the caliber of Quennville to be a “pro scout”. Ownership was apparently itching to make this change when Quenneville was hired. It was evidently completely calculated. Chicago, shows a lack of class in our opinion. In our opinion this is a slap in the face. Quenville is a quality coach, no doubt, but Savard was not given enough time with this very young team who just last year showed great improvement under his tutelage last season.
2) We’re sure some Colorado fans might disagree with our opinion of coach Q, but regardless we feel this was an ill timed move. If management believed that Dennis wasn’t the guy to coach, then he should have been let go over the summer! Not after 4 games, and after their first win to boot.
3) Also Read the article below. From TSN where Hawks GM Tallon gave Savard a clear vote of confidence? Certainly something must have changed, and it can’t be the record?

I’d have to agree with Faux that the timing is terrible. How can you fire a guy after four games? If it was that close why wasn’t he fired before the season? As a GM, if you say to yourself “If my coach starts off 1-2-1, he’s out the door” then you need to fire him right then and there, not wait until after training camp.
Quenneville is going to come in with a new system, a new way, and it’s going to take some time for the players to get acclimated. In the mean time there will be mistakes and games will be lost. Isn’t that what the pre-season is for?
This is the main reason I thought it would have been better for the Canes to change coaches in the off-season. A new coach will want different players for a different style. They’ll have a different kill and power play philosophy. You need camp to work through all of that. You need guys to be able to make mistakes and get some confidence.

Just when I thought Chicago was making all the right moves….
I agree with faux’s analysis and C-Leaguer’s comments. Something stinks in Chicago around this move.
