Leighton to Start in Anaheim

Michael Leighton will get the start in goal against the Ducks for tonight's game in Anaheim. The back-up goalie has had one other start this season, a 4-3 overtime win at Tampa Bay.

Chip at LSB is also reporting that Eric Staal will be able to shrug off his sore shoulder and play in tonight's game as well. Staal has played in 258 consecutive games, a franchise best since it's been in Carolina. Tuomo Ruutu is expected to miss another game.

Frank Kaberle has a fracture and will be out for a "few weeks". Anton Babchuk will take his place and will be paired with Nic Wallin. Pitkanen and Gleason will remain the number one pairing which leaves Seidenberg matched with Corvo. We will see how that works out.

The Hurricanes have gone two straight games without scoring on the powerplay, (0-9), and will be looking to get something started with a man advantage the next opportunity they have. They also hope to score first in a game for the first time this season.

Game starts at 8PM eastern.

Im anxious to see what Babchuk can do. I still expect big things outta him. He’s huge, if he could just be a little more physical…..either way Im looking forward to seeing him play.

It sucks that we can’t even watch this game on Center Ice. black out? what’s the deal? Why get Center Ice if we can’t watch the Canes play their out of town games… Hope the Canes can start off the game with a solid first 5-10 minutes, as they seem to get better as the game goes along. Power play, what power play? May as well play 5 on 5.

You don’t have FSN, Swenk? That’s why it’s blacked out … b/c it’s on FSN.

Keep an eye on Matt Cullen tonight. He played six seasons with the Ducks and I’m sure will have a little extra jump.

Sutter’s shorthanded effort at the end was great!

Probably one the team shouldn’t have won, but great goaltending from Leighton, timely goal (again) From Rod and some very good desperate play in the defensive end from Sutter, Seidenberg, Wallin and others.

We need to put Ward back in goal immediately! He is too good of a goalie and to get his confidence down early in the season is not a good idea. He is a much better goaltender than Leighton even though Leighton has two wins. Just remember those two wins were against two of the worst teams in hockey! Ward is the future to this team!
