JR In The News

Two quick items worth looking into:
1) LSB has posted an entry where GM Jim Rutherford expresses his displeasure with the team's recent efforts.
2) TSN.com is reporting Rutherford turned down the role of president and GM for the Maple Leafs last August.
Discuss.
One more item: Justin Williams is back on the ice, according to CH.com. Don't get too excited — he's likely still a minimum of a month and a half away, but it's good to hear he's progressing.

no surprises on turning that down – you have to have a special, masochistic personality to want to work in Toronto sports.

I think JR is one helluva GM. Im glad he didnt go to the Leafs. Shows his dedication to the Hurricanes organization. JR always seems to come out on the better end of most trades. This also makes me feel good as a Canes fan…….knowing that our GM of our “Southleast” team didnt bolt for Canada and Torontos big Hockey Universe. It speaks volumes about the Triangle area. I feel like if the passion werent here, he’d surely of packed his bags and left. This speaks volumes about the fanbase as well I believe!

I dunno I’m kinda with Repent.
If Holland died he’d be in Detroit before Ken got buried, I think, but who knows.

There are a lot of different ways to look it. When thinking about the GM job in Toronto, you have to take into consideration that it is probably a short-term job. If Toronto had finished dead last in the league for two consecutive seasons, (like the Canes did in 2002-03 and 2003-04), do you think JR would have still had that job?
Thanks to his relationship with Peter Karmanos, he has a job pretty much for life here in Raleigh, if he wants it.
Although I do agree that for the most part, that Rutherford is a good GM.

I think most Caniacs are expressing their displeasure with the Canes work ethic today on many of the message boards.

LSB’s Talking Points: Gleason sounds off is a good read. Its the most urgency and emotion I’ve seen or heard from any player, staff, or whatever all season. I agree with the comments on his blog……put an “A” or a even a “C” on his chest. No knock on Brindy……but I’d like Rod to be a little more vocal and last thing I heard from him was his whining about his own personal game, and about him catching up to speed. Either way, I loved Gleasons passion, maybe he can get everyone wound up and ready to go!

TylerA:
now THAT’S something I can agree with! I don’t care if they put any letter on his chest as thats mostly an in-game distinction but I’m glad to see some passion. Even though I argued in comments in an earlier post that the canes performance in the first half last night was good, I definitely think they need more passion. They needed to come out banging last night.

1) It looks like Rutherford is a smarter man that Brian Burke. Only and idiot or ego maniac would go from a cushy/stable/secure well paid position in southern California to go manage in the middle of the 3 ring hockey circus of Toronto!

I think the difference, Faux, is one guy likes to feed his ego and the other is content just doing his job.
