Carolina Hurricanes at Tampa Bay Lightning, Oct 10, 2009 7:30 PM EDT
This is the second back to back this season for the Hurricanes. Can they keep their two game winning streak alive?
Tampa Bay has a record of 0-1-2 and is stinging after allowing a last second game tying goal to New Jersey on Thursday night. The Lightning went on to lose the game in a shootout.
There is still no official word if Cam Ward will start tonight or not, but Tampa's backup, Antero Niittymaki will be in net for the home team.
The Hurricanes lineup will be the same as last night:
- Staal, Ruutu, Samsonov
- Cullen, Whitney, LaRose
- Brind'Amour, Jokinen, Walker
- Yelle, Kostopoulos, Conboy
- Gleason, Corvo
- Ward, Wallin
- Harrison, Alberts
Raw Charge will have the latest and greatest about the Lightning.

Yes they can, if they play solid D and continue their aggressiveness on offense from the Florida game. As disappointed as I was with Staal last night, I’m hoping that Mo kept his ice time down because of the back-to-back. Also, having Pitkanen tonight would be a big help…anyone heard if he’s playing?

I don’t know why Cullen is still on the point. He has looked great lately…..but still just nothing on the point on the PP.
That chance he had that Nittymaki gloved was when he was down low on the PP…..I don’t see the PP changing anything up at all and that is getting a little troubling. Only 4 games in, small sample size and all, but wow it is just looking impotent thus far.
Damn, I thought they were going to score for a sec there…

PP is just miserable this season.
When they do get a good chance on net they just can’t seem to finish. Sucks. They need to figure it out.
On a good note, Ward has been a wall and kept the team in it. Man, Mo better light fire and crush testicles at the break.

I don’t what has gotten into them. I mean if it’s a penalty, fine. But they really have overstepped their boundaries a little.
It’s all the new refs this year. Guys with no idea how the game should flow and trying to prove they can follow orders even when it’s not best for the game.

I think it’s fair to say that this is an unacceptable beginning to the season based on expectations. Maurice needs to do something.
That being said, the Lightning are a much improved team this year.
offense still needs to produce more. it is becoming a problem.

4 goals against isn’t exactly helping
and we have to be one of the league leaders in penalty minutes right now…that has to change
Exactly. Part of it is the refs, but we need to realize how they are calling things and adapt to it.
Woah…I didn’t blame the refs. I’m saying we have to stop doing things that the refs will call. Fair or unfair. If you outskate and outshoot the other team, chances are good you will be taking less penalties.
it’s hard to adapt to something so inconsistent. they called a bunch of crap and let go some blatant infractions, how do you adapt to that?
Get sneakier? LOL In all seriousness, they have to take fewer actual penalties, which some of them have been. If you know they’re calling almost everything short of looking at someone funny, then you can’t give them the chance to nab you. Doing that will reduce the penalties at least a little.
I’m outta here, gonna go pound another one and sit by the woodstove and fume. “Wasted opportunity” was correct. The penalty’s were out of control and I still don’t think the PP was worth a shit. The only reason this wasn’t 10-2 was Ward, he played well, again, justy had nothing in front of him..
