"Revenge is a dish best served cold." Will Caniacs have something to cheer about at the end of the night?

While you’re waiting for the game – check out the conversation with Cam Ward on NHL Network yesterday that IHeartMASN posted in the Fanshot. Great insight from Cam on his love of Raleigh, the season and this game.
Let's go Canes!
Hakkaa Paalle!
I think the best hope for a victory would be les than 12 minutes in penalty’s and not get outscored by more than 6.
7-2 loss with good effort and less than 12 minutes in the box and I call it forward progress.
A
Really nice article about J.Staal’s feelings about being an uncle. Interesting that the baby is in Thunder Bay with his mom-Eric can’t use sleep deprivation as an excuse.
Man, I hate games like this…can’t really stand either club equally, but I’ve gotta pull for PIT in this one. SE Division, and all.
Remeber that one year.....
….that the Panthers were good?
Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.
Now that you mention it…..That was before they got so desperate that they obsessively accused their Division of rivals of diving so they could get at least a little help on offense, wasn’t it?

That was the year! I actually have to commend him for not bringing up the diving thing…….1st time in………. well, ever, that a sulky Cats fan hasn’t mentioned it.
Since we’re reminiscing do you remember that time that the Canes crushed the Cats 7-2?
Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.
Good game to attend. I won’t get up for a game until the 13th, against the Isle. It’s the only positive thing about living in this town of derelicts……only 2 hour drive to the big ATM!
Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.
If Wilmington, NC is filled with derelicts – the quality of beautiful women certainly makes up for any other shortcomings, dude.

Soooooo, I’m going to Buffalo 1st week of November………willingly!! Too bad they’re not playing the Sabres that week. I’ll represent well though….don’t worry.

Buffalo is actually pretty fun. Didn’t make it to a Sabres game, but I’ve heard it’s a great experience.

I think Gleason may finnaly be getting a little tough. About time. This year his hits have been like good puncuation…
A
Not at all. He’s a nice guy and has always hit like that. Now he looks like he’s trying to remove paint off the boards. I like that alot better. Screw nice guys on the ice..
That should illicit a few sordid and sorted replys…

I never thought he was “nice” on the ice. Out of all of our guys, he was one of the only ones I could count on to bring the nasty every night.

That was what I was talking about earlier. That period was a victory for this team. Screw goals. Don’t run into eachother and stay out of the box. I mean it’s pee wee/squirt style stuff, but is critical. That was about the best they have looked all year.
A
The irony is in the truth of it.
They looked good that whole period. One lapse in position and they coughed up a goal. BFD. Learn to play this way for 60 minutes every night and the goals and points will come..
A
What the hell game were you guys watching? The first 10 min were fine.
After that 1st goal the Pens just owned the ice.

Well they played hard the first period and have nothing to show for it. They’ll be worn out now the rest of the game. Time for the Pens to come out on fire.

1st period stats
Hits are 22-10 our way. Kostopolous with 5, Gleason and LaRose with 4 each.
Alberts leading Canes with 2 shots (!).
2-0 on takeaways our way.
Faceoffs 5-4 their way.
Greek Lightning (Kostopolous) with 5 hits in 2-1/2 mins of ice time! Kickass!

I think they just need to maintain the effort level and stay out of the box. Scew the points, learning discipline at this point is far more valuable. So far the effort and disc. have been great.

Roddy Brind’amour could pinch off a turd bigger than Crosby

I will give you the second goal was a little weak, but that’s it. I’m not the person you want to get into this with. LOL
More than once the D has bailed him when he could not get back in to position . Luv him if u want but u gotta recognize he is not bringing his a game tonight. Either way enjoy the rest of the game!
by wylde4canes on Oct 14, 2009 8:36 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
So one or two bailouts by the D makes up for 5 games worth of them hanging him out to dry? Sorry, not buying it. And this isn’t just me being his fan; he’s been the only thing keeping us in most of our games, including this one.
Apples and oranges CG. I agree he has been the only thing going for us at times this young year, but I’m just talkin bout tonight. And tonight has not been a great showing for him.

I certainly don’t get anyone who’s down on Staal .. he’s been one of the five best goal scorers in the league since the lockout.
same folks who want Cam Ward gone after he has one off game
Barry Melrose Rocks: Hockey and mullets. What else is there?
I’m not down on him normally, just pointing out he has taken his first shot on goal very late in the second
GM of CanesCountry.com
Wasn’t pointing to that … more the people who pin all the blame on him when the team’s not playing well. The D is terrible moving the puck right now. Dreadfully terrible.

Might be me, but tripp the dick tracy was oozing how the Staal family is awsome and a dynasty and compared them to the Sutters on equal terms.
Not even in the same language can you compare 4 measily players to 4 generations.
God I hate TT.
A
Closest thing there is to the Sutters. shrug
by Cory Lavalette on Oct 14, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Rocket Richards had 2 generations after him. Howe came back to play with his kid in his 50’s and that alone is far more than the Staals breeding farm. When they have full careers and move on to the business end, then you can make the comparisson. Comparing them now is like saying the top weage earner at the local McDonalds is as great a bread winner as Bill Gates.
That just made him sound like a bigger asshole than even I think he is…
A
It’s silly to argue that three brothers playing at an elite level in the best hockey league in the world isn’t impressive.
by Cory Lavalette on Oct 14, 2009 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions
No it’s insane to compare that to 4 generations. There is no comparison. Match up numbers withe the Sedins and Koivus, this isn’t even on par with less prolific single generation family’s
A
Staals > Sedins and Koivus. Individually and team accomplishments.

bench Conboy, call-up Bryan Rodney for some PP help
Barry Melrose Rocks: Hockey and mullets. What else is there?
I said at the beginning of the year that it might be worthwhile to dress 7 D and use Rodney as a PP specialist. It’s comical to me, honestly, that Harrison is here ahead of him.

Another injury up front, and I bet we’d see Boychuk down here ASAP. And I bet he wouldn’t ever ride a minor league bus again.
by Cory Lavalette on Oct 14, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Sutter before Boychuck unless very specific speed is needed. I also think Sutter may be maybe 2 call ups down the list..
A
If a scorer goes down, Boychuk belongs here ahead of Sutter. Sutter is more of a checker. Boychuk is absolutely dynamic. He could come up and be plugged into the first line, if needed, and look OK. Sutter couldn’t.
by Cory Lavalette on Oct 14, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Ditto to both, but I think Boychuck is too far down to be brought up as a call up. He should be here to get the full NHL level deal. I don’t see him getting a call up unless we get a slew of wingers down. I agree that the kid can play and at this level. I just don’t think he is as “plug and play”" ready as say a Sutter or several of the others.
Though the speed dynamic the kid brings would change game plans.
A
I agree Boychuk will be the next 40 goal scorer for us

This is a win for the team, a win for Mo and a glimmer of what could be Canes hockey.
I am pleased as hell with the way this game was played. It’s how it’s played more often than who has more points. That’s why the NHL has the real deal no BS sissy play off best of seven.
I liked the effort tonight alot. The SOI is just bonus candy.

That was a win on almost every measure. If our main goal scorer would of on the shoot out we’d still be watching, if Cam would of stopped one of the first two we’d be winners. That’s where this team needs to be. On the edge. They have not been there until now. Friggin’ great game.
