"Ten Years After" for the RBC - Blues at Canes Game Preview

Photo

The RBC Center, formerly known as the Entertainment and Sports Arena, (ESA), is 10 years old this week.  The Centennial Authority and team officials will be celebrating the milestone tonight as the St. Louis Blues take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the only match up this season between the two teams.

(The first 5,000 fans will receive free t-shirts.)

The Hurricanes have just returned home from a rough road trip and are currently riding a six game losing streak.  They have concentrated this week on tightening up their game a bit so that hopefully they can bring their penalty minute averages down.  The Canes are the most penalized team in the NHL.

In their last five games, the Blues lost to the Stars, Pens, and Coyotes, while beating the Wild and Ducks.  Their most recent game was a 4-1 loss to Dallas on Saturday.

Star-divide

The Blues are led by (forever young) Keith Tkachuk and Paul Kariya.

Erik Johnson, the star defenseman who missed the entire season because of a golfing cart accident last year, is leading the team in assists.

Chris Mason will probably be in net while Cam Ward will be tending the crease for the Canes.  Ward is lifetime 3-0-0 in three starts against St. Louis.

The Hurricanes have been mixing and matching the lines, trying to find some chemsitry that will score goals.  Look for these lines starting out.

  • Staal, Whitney, LaRose
  • Cullen, Brind'Amour, Walker
  • Jokinen, Sutter, Samsonov
  • Yelle, Kostopoulos, Conboy
  • Corvo, Wallin
  • Pitkanen, Ward
  • Alberts, Harrison

Tim Gleason remains out.  He has not skated with the team this week because of an upper body injury so it looks like he is another week away.  Tuomo Ruutu will be serving the second game of his three game suspension and will not play.  Erik Cole skated with the team today for the first time in almost a month.  He might be ready to return soon but will not play tonight.

The game starts at 7 and will not be televised locally.  Watch it on Center Ice, or listen to Chuck on 99.9 The Fan.  We will have the Live Game Thread running like normal starting at 6:30.

Well i was at the pre game skate. wasn’t anything real exciting. Cole was yellow jersey’d and he’s gonna be back soon. The leg was only the slightest bit shaky. Once he gets his sea legs back, so he will be, too. Conboy was the first to give any life or fun to the thing and it was about halfway through before he started up. It was like a funeral for the first 1/2 hr. If I’m not mistaken 15 is Ruu and 18 is Yelle and both were present and Ruutu was getting his butt skated hard. Sutter was working face offs with Yelle or who ever 18’s brain bucket on. Brandon didn’t real good against him, but as they went on he did get better. Rod looked good when he put the petal to the metal. ray looks like he is in contract year, go figure? Both goalies looked fine. They did mostly passing drills and no awards are gonna be given out. Sutter was messin’/funnin’ with Staal was Staal was stretching, they seem to get along. Conboy and Sutter “scored” on a drill which was Conboys start to getting some juice flowing by friendly mushing Sutter on the boards in celebration and yelling woo hoo. The first sounds of the practice. Otherwise Sutter looked a little left out, he’s still looking for his spot. Didn’t even see Gleason. Was me a family of 4 and 3 wimmin behind me. not anybody there at all. i reckon the game is gonna be pretty empty, too.

Anyway, all i gleaned from it and it’s only worth what ya paid for it.

Going to the game tonight!!

Is this Sutter’s first start? Or have I missed something?

I doubt he'll be in the starting line up

Not that those mean much in Hockey, but he played in a number of games last season.

5 seconds left.

I’m going too! A friend with tix just called. Unfortunately I won’t be able to do much Kariya-ogling from the 3rd level… ;) Will try to get some pictures though.

Big Game

I wish I could be there. This team needs to pull out a good solid win.

Hopefully I can find a stream that works good tonight so I can see how Sutter looks compared to last year.

GO CANES!!
