Canes Face Angry Bruins Tonight - Live Game Thread

PrintThe Carolina Hurricanes invade the angry den of the Boston Bruins tonight for a contest between two teams searching for their season's first win. Boston was humiliated by Washington on Thursday night, but if that wasn't enough incentive to do well, they will want payback for losing to the Canes in the playoffs last year. They most likely have been waiting for this game all offseason.
The Hurricanes will need to bring their "A" games as well as a bit more intensity than they mustered in the opening period last night when they were out-shot 15-8 by the Flyers.
It's been reported that Joni Pitkanen will miss tonight's game, meaning that the lineup will most likely be the exact same as last night.

This is a homecoming of sorts for Stephane Yelle, Aaron Ward, Andrew Alberts, and Sergei Samsonov. Each of them have spent considerable time in Beantown. Samsonov has done well against his former team in the past.
The Canes will be looking to improve upon their 0-8 performance with the man advantage last night. It's not the improvement they were looking for from their 10% success ratio in the playoffs, which was by far a league low for team's playing more than four games.
Game starts at 7 p.m. and it will be broadcast by FS Carolinas and 99.9 The Fan.

Big test tonight. I don’t think the back-to-back will matter much at this point in the season, but the B’s and their fans will be eager to see us because of what happened the last time we were in this building. The Canes will have to do a much better job keeping our own crease clear and crashing Thomas’ net than they did last night. Staal will need more than one official shot on net, as well.
Lately the program guide just mirrors whatever is on the SD channel. They either broadcast the SD feed on the HD channel same as the SD, or the channel is just blank. I wouldn’t get my hopes up on this one.
It would be fantastic to get a bonus HD game though.
So Colorado is now 2-0, beating the Sharks and Canucks by a combined score of 8-2. They might move up a bit in the SBN power rankings next week…. That’s #15 in the West dominating in wins over #1 and #3. Is there something very good about the Avalanche that everyone was missing or did the losers think they were still in the pre-season?

They just haven’t looked like 5 guys skating as a team at all this year. Noone seems to be on the same page at all. Cullen snagged that puck at center ice, and then him and Rosie just skated into each other and negated a great play. In their own zone they are showing the same sort of confusion.

correct me if im wrong but does a 4 minute high sticking penalty hold over even if the power play team scores a goal?
A 4 m PP is two 2m PP
So if a goal is scored in the first 2 min, the second PP begins.
If the first PP ends without a score and then a goal is scored, the second PP ends like normal and no more PP.

thats one thing that bugs me about hockey, is what makes cole exciting is his speed. and now after hits like that hell be afraid to do it, it took him 3 seasons to start skating again after the neck issue, and now this.
