Wow, kinda dead here tonight. An obvious sign of a struggling team. Or everyone just might be at the game….

Hey Bubba – apparently I just missed you before the game…
WTF is going on!?!????

Hey kids
I’m checking in from Hillsborough Squirts practice. I’ll check out soon and watch it on DVR later. Did I just see Peters warming up? I can’t hear much in the lobby here….Surely Legace is the starting goalie.

wow, that was amazing..
whats that all about bob?
is that just kind of a fluke thing when we can cycle in their zone on our kill?
looking at the event sheet, it was 16, 13, 26, 6, and 77 on the ice. If they score against the best of our best in the first minute…….shucks. That’s hard to take.

This might be common knowledge, but they just said on TSN that JR told Brandon last Tuesday night after the Habs game that he should get a house in Raleigh cause he won’t be going back to Albany… Good stuff JR!
good feeling tonight
we;ll catch up. i have a good feeling tonight. and if we don’t, mo is toast.
How can WHitney miss that? They must be as tight as can be.
Hurricanes Hockey: Never for the faint of heart.
I am hoping for some more Birthday luck!! They won Sunday for CG, today is my daughters 11th B-day, can we get a win boys?? Please????//
no freaking joke!
so jr, what do we need on this team?? anyone? YOUTH AND SPEED DUMBASS. but you hire all vets. real smart.
Is Legace being left out to dry or is he having a bad night?

sutter
perform miracles for us baby! you know you can..and emma will give you a big fat smack on the cheek
If they show the SloMo of Staal carrying the team on his shoulders, They really are out of touch.

I wish they would get rid of these stupid commercials touting “how good we were last year”. jeez, that is so damned annoying.

SOG: 14 for TOR, 9 for CAR. And Toronto is supposed to be terrible in the first period.

Booing from the press box? — seriously?
You mean this isn’t a great team we’re playing?

this is abnormal, it is beyond sucking…3-0 in the 1st against the Leafs
by outlander_caniac on Nov 19, 2009 7:41 PM EST up reply actions
WHen GLeason and Ruutu look tentative we really need an intermission.
Hurricanes Hockey: Never for the faint of heart.
c’mon leafs make it 5-0 before the end of the period…. for the hell of it.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
might as well root for something. Perhaps if they lose hard enough, JR will get a wake up call and do something, anything to change the dynamic here, like getting rid of the seniors on the team and bring up some young blood.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
no he won't
you’d have to pound him over the head with a baseball bat first…only when PK threatens to fire jr will jr do something..he’s an idiot
I gottta head home. I’ll catch up on the DVR. I’m going to practice tomorrow if you want me to relay a message…..
(though this does remind me of how we all felt after the first at the Islanders game Friday – and we did get a point on that one……Fluke?, yeah probably)
Hurricanes Hockey: Never for the faint of heart.
NCSU, Duke, UNC, UNCW, UNCC, all have club teams
Barry Melrose Rocks: Hockey and mullets. What else is there?
ECU’s hockey team has only lost a few games in years of playing, they’re really good
Barry Melrose Rocks: Hockey and mullets. What else is there?
thought we were making progress last 2 games
ummm…NOPE!
No reason to start stressing. I’m sure our dear captain will be telling the guys just keep at it. If we keep playing like we have been, they won’t be able to contain us…
or he could just cry and tell about his feelings like Rex Ryan did for the NY Jets….
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
or he could just say “follow my lead guys, I’ll show you the way!” pppffffffffft
Barry Melrose Rocks: Hockey and mullets. What else is there?
here's a thought
replace the ENTIRE hurricanes team with the ENTIRE river rats team and see the difference….i bet we’d have a better record..no joke
let's play a game...who's to blame?
1, MO?
2. JR?
3. lazy ass veterans?
4. Elmo?
but elmo shouldn't be dragged in
he just entertains people unlike our team
I blame Mo, but even back in the era of Mo the 1st I kinda hated the guy as a coach, so caveat.
I think he’s hilarious when dealing with the press. Not so awesome when it comes to coaching hockey.
you find his soundbites funny but his coaching stinky
he admits to yelling and cursing out the players
he definatley brings out the colorful language during practices.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
someone needs to record it
put in on youtube with backup techno music..that would be hilarious..what does he unleash during practice???
1. Brindy. I think the lack of leadership by example is killing us.
2. Lazy tail vets that are here to watch the game on the ice.
3. Mo.
4. Everyone else but Whitney, Ruutu, and Sutter.
ok, who wants second helpings of this game. I KNOW I DO!!!!
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
we still have periods 2 and 3
oh right, those are the periods we suck even worse

Yelle vs. Brind'Amour
I thought tonight showed how positive things are for the third line when Yelle centers the third line and Brind’Amour sits. It’s been obvious for a long time. Brind’Amour did the team a huge favor by not being on the ice much during the third period.

No Brind'amour much in the Third Period
The entire speed of the game for the Hurricanes changed when Yelle replaced Brind’Amour on the third line. Suddenly, the Hurricanes were pinning the Leafs in their own end. The energy level of the team changed as well. It was obvious to see. Surely, Maurice and Francis see it.

Game rocked. bunch of folks left before the tie goal. well not in our row, Dr Evil may have gotten violent… but from that point on it was electric. It felt very, VERY good to be there.
I had a blast, hung with the Doc and her posse and even met Bob and guess what, the canes won. I got vocal damage, too, but won’t hamper my typing.

Not true – the three people sitting to the left of you left just before we tied it up… But they rarely stay to the end unless I make them. This time they snuck out while I wasn’t looking.
Too bad for them!
And my two friends at the other end of our row are leafs fans…

Damn I didn't see any of you guys last night.
When do we fix that?
What about a pre-game drink at a watering hole?
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.
Was hoping you’d catch the hint..
Ooooh yea, a low blow struck by Moi!!!
Actually I thought you posted you wqeren’t gonna be there? Maybe my bad. Doc scored killer seats and I know I was rather lazy, so we didn’t do much traveling. Actually all went well..hockey, beer, pee, get more beer, repeat.
Man what a game huh, dude?
Should be there Saturday, still got my number?

hey, bob, can you switch goalies before the shoot out?
legace is making an argument for being our shootout goalie…ifthats legal
I can be Bob. Yes, you can. And yes he has. I wasn’t terribly impressed with Manny’s game but he has been awesome in the shootout.

Rod Brind’Amour had only 10 minutes…Holy cow. Yelle was moved up to third line.

That was one of my favorite stats of the game. There is absolutely NO reason why Rod should be on the ice for 20 minutes a game anymore. Good for Mo for seeing that after 2 months…

Brind'Amour on the Fourth Line
Brind’Amour on the Fourth Line. It was like manna from heaven to see him moved down. It made a huge positive difference for the team that Yelle was on the third line.
great game, bad 1st… but got better as the game wore on! Way to go ’Canes!!! Gleason was more of a monster tonite, than the “monster” himself! How bout Ruutu as well, 4 assists tonite!

Rule for hiking up a mountain
Rule for hiking up a mountain: don’t look up to see how high it is, don’t look back to see how little ground you have made up, just walk, one step and then another step.
We were at the game.
That was a top shelf effort guys. How about talking about the folks that didn’t leave with thirty seconds left. The young guys really carried the play. Ruutu was inspirational and dominating. Erik Cole was all over the ice. Refs were in the way all night and almost cost us that game. There is justice in hockey. That effort deserved a win. Brind’ Amour was ineffective. Sutter is a superstar in the making. Get Wardo and ES back and the team will be in a position to make a push to get to .500…….. time will tell. Corvo played like a guy that gave up that first goal chance and was really pissed about it. Gleason showed me something tonight that I have not seen from him. Take charge attitude. Made his mental errors but just took the bull by the horns. Whitney was a fraction off all night.
Staying Until the Bitter End -- Only then a Miracle
As my wife, son, his friend and I waited for the bitter end of the game, and we saw the mass exodus, I was thinking of the folly that is humanity and how much futile hope sustains us. I figured the team was down enough and didn’t need to see fans giving up. To me, the miraculous finish explains what it is to be a Hurricanes fan. Yes, the season is beyond disappointing; but within the Hurricanes team as long as players like Ruutu, Sutter, Whitney, Gleason, Jokinen, and Whitney are battling and refusing to surrender, we’ll stay until the end, hoping against hope for another miracle finish. We’ve been there when the team earned the Stanley Cup; and we’ll be there if and when the team drags bottom.
Gleason showed me something tonight that I have not seen from him
Me too – he can giggle like a little girl in a postgame interview. TImmy for Emperor

Gleason had a beautiful keep-in on his first goal, eerilly similar to the game 7 keep-in he did in NJ.. ok so maybe he didn’t fall too one knee on the pay, but a great move all in all!

WOOOOOOOOOOOO
That ended up being some serious fun.
I laughed my ass off at everyone who bolted with 30 seconds to go. Have you folks not learned anything?
And it’s hilarious to read the game thread when you already know the outcome.
Sisu
Very appropriate
My son pointed out that makes 6 points in the last 4 games (2-0-2). 4 game point streak. But only win in regulation this season. Why do it the easy way?
Gleason – 4 goals in the last 6 games. (this puts him on a pace for a 20-goal season – who saw that coming?)
Ruutu – 8 points in the last 5 games, not including the shootout goal last night.
Whitney and Sutter – 6 points each in the last 5 games.
Jokinen – 3 points in the last 3 games, plus his 2 shoot out goals.
Corvo – 3 points in the last 3 games

While I'll take the points,
the Canes have to start winning in regulation or risk burning themselves out, more injuries, etc.
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.
Mini-trends
Regardless of how the season turns out, it’s very important for the core of the team to find its legs, steady itself, and make strides toward the transition to the New Canes.
This mini-trend, with the individual streaks you’ve documented above, is very encouraging.
Footnote: not the highest quality of opponents during this mini-stretch…but, Canes teams always seem to play up or down to the quality of opposition. I yearn for the days we finally establish an org identity (good kind, not the bad kind) and play it consistently.
Of course I was at the game and loved it when the fair weather fans
left with 29.whatever seconds left.
They missed a great comeback.
As for “blown calls”, that was killing both teams last night.
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.
Oh yes CORVO was blowing chunks
For all of those who keep saying “Get rid of Wallin”, at least Nick was there and didn’t let his guy blow past him.
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.
Hadn’t you heard? Gleason is the new Corvo and the new AWard. Doing both their jobs for the price of one.

So where's the memo making Mo the stickboy?
Hell, I’ll write it.

The Canes and the road back: Also, no more joking around.
Yeah, I’ve been posting a lot of things that have been just really out there but no more. Let’s just say that I thought I’d match the whining and weird posts, or do better than what I’ve been reading.
I still have hope.
Last night shows me what I think the Canes games are: Movies where the hero is losing in the opening rounds. But only starts coming back and gets close, but with greater promise of next year or makes the playoffs or and my personal favorite, wins it all.
Yeah call me an optimist. (But let’s say I’m glad I’m not a Leaf’s Fan. “A Nation of Masochists” is an apt titleand I can see myself there.
Last night’s movie was a Jean Claude Van Damme movie where the hero is drugged and doing their best just to stay on their feet. Then the hero starts fighting back, just when the bad guy thinks he has him on the ropes. The hero starts pounding away, just to have the bad guy do a great move that knocks the hero back again.
Then the hero starts his climb back to beating the bad guy. He punches away, kicks, bites, claws and just when you think he’s going to win, the bad guy knocks him on his ass with time running out. When the fans start throwing away their betting slips, the hero, with almost no time, land s a telling blow stunning the bad guy.
They stop and stand toe to toe for the next few minutes, both guys a little staggered. What both are as will is a lot mad and reach deep as they trade furious blows that just can’t seem to land on the other guy. Finally with both nearing collapse, the hero smashes the face of the bad guy and his knees buckle.
Desperately, the bad guy tries the same thing and misses. Then the hero lines up his opponent and lays him out and the bad guy can’t get back up.
Like I said, Canes games are movies and last night title was “Jean Claude gets his ass kicked first and often but comes back and wins XXI”
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.

I’m a Habs fan but I have to say the officiating was real bad last night against the Leafs. In fact I’d say Carolina is the one team that has the refs on their side all the time. The year they won the cup it was mainly due to the reffing. The Canes injured an opposing player out of the playoffs in every series and never, ever received a single minute in penalties. Replay of all the hits, high sticks, charging and slashes easilly showed they were all infractions. Last night the 4 minute high stick penalty to a Toronto player (White) was called because a Carolina player high sticked his own player. Carolina scored on the PP. In OT (I thnk?) Carolina put the puck in their own net before the whistle. Replay showed the puck was in motion and the whistle hadn’t sounded. Refs blew it again! Every night fans watch goalies being rammed into the net and the refs allow a goal. Why wave off the goal last night? The reffing is real bad and it’s why many fans (me included) are watching less and less NHL hockey. It’s becoming a bloody joke. .
Yeah, like Samsanov’s high stick at the beginning of the year.
Damn I love things like this.
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.
like i said before
if we can play like this with out our three best players, maybe we can make a return to the standings before this season is up.
At RBC right now, they just told us that practice won’t start until around noon today.
