Canes at Stars: Game Day Preview

The Carolina Hurricanes, (5-12-5), are in Dallas to take on the Stars, (10-6-6), tonight in the first of a two game road trip for the Canes.   After this contest, the visitors will hop on a plane to Anaheim for a Wednesday night matchup with the Ducks.

The Hurricanes have now won two games in a row, three of their last four, and have earned points in their last five games.  They have long since put an end to their early 14 game winless streak and hope to be turning a corner.  But they have yet to win a single road game all season, (0-7-3), the only team in the NHL not to win on the road yet this year.

Star-divide

While Eric Staal made the road trip with his team, he is not expected to play.  Look for the lines to be the same as the last two games.

  • Sutter, Whitney, Cole
  • Cullen, Ruutu, Jokinen
  • Yelle, Samsonov, LaRose
  • Brind'Amour, Kostopoulos, Dwyer
  • Gleason, Corvo
  • Pitkanen, Wallin
  • Ward, Alberts

Manny Legace will be in net for the Canes while it's expected that Marty Turco will do the same for the Stars.

The Stars are riding high after beating the toughest road team in the NHL, the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.  But Dallas is 1-5-3 in games after a win.  Obviously, they are looking for some consistency as well.

As Cory posted previously, James Neal is serving a suspension and will miss this game.  Fabian Brunnstrom, who has been mentioned in trade rumors, has been out with a shoulder problem.

According to Defending Big D, the Dallas lines should be as follows:

Wandell - Richards - Eriksson
Ott - Ribeiro - Lehtinen
Morrow - Modano - Benn
Barch - Peters - Petersen

The game will not be televised locally but can be found on Center Ice or you can listen to 99.9 The Fan.  We will have the open thread going at 7:30.

Tom Wandell with Richards, huh? I know the Morrow line has been good, but Wandell is probably not the type to finish off Richards passes.

by Cory Lavalette on Nov 23, 2009 3:50 PM EST reply actions

Maybe not Wandell,

but Loui Eriksson is certainly a great finisher.

And the Morrow line has been pretty slow. Morrow in general has been slow. I wouldn’t worry too much about him :P

excited for the game tonight

just about as excited as I was for the season opener.

Let see if they can duplicate that 60 min effort

How about some freaking TV coverage?

Still not a crook!

TWC Center Ice

Here’s the Center Ice schedule: It appears we are Channel “10” which is TWC 740 starting at 8:30 Eastern. (It always says BLACKOUT on the on screen guide – even when we get to see it because FSN isn’t carrying it)

Forslund is calling the Wings-Preds game on Versus tonight, I think.

by hip_check on Nov 23, 2009 5:42 PM EST up reply actions

Here is the deal. The next time there is no FSN coverage one of you people with CenterIce needs to have a party and invite everyone contributing to this blog over to watch the game. Everybody with Centerice can rotate the party around so no one misses out on being a host and then no one will ever miss a televised game, again. Not only can we all watch the game but just think of all the arguments discussions we can have about improving our team face to face.

I’ll consider it for Chapel Hill – depends if it’s a school night.

The main event fight tonight………………..sometime at the end of the first period………………….
Tim Gleason vs. Steve Ott………………………

So, all my teams suck!

by canescup on Nov 23, 2009 4:29 PM EST reply actions

That is great except we need Tim Gleason on the ice and not in the box… :-(

Ok, but Dallas likes to fight and somebody is going to receive an ugly hit tonight and then somebody better step up.

A TRUE CANIAC......YES I AM........

by canescup on Nov 23, 2009 6:45 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe Alberts? Again – we need a full D-force unless something new and ugly happens.

Steve Ott is up there with Matt Cooke, Darcy Tucker, etc. as worst cheap-shot artist. Don’t know if he can actually fight.

It's technically not legal but...

If you’re trying to find a game stream online, your best bet is atdhe.net

It comes in handy for a ’Canes fan on the west coast…

In case you wondered who ESPN Dallas picked as the go-to all-knowing source on the Canes , check this out folks.

Also – the Hurricanes weekly podcast is up. Lots about the Finns. Runs about 50 minutes – and no commercials. Lots of in-depth perspective as usual. Better than 99.9 if you’re looking for in-depth info, for sure.

Thanks for the links!

Great interview with ESPN Dallas, Bob. Very nicely done.

HM, thanks for letting me know I need to checkout the Finns info on the podcast (thumbs up, now to find 50 minutes).

Can you put it on your iPod for driving around town tomorrow…? Only the fist 20 minutes are the Finn-fest. They cover what happens on the lines when Staal and Walker return. They preview all 4 games this week. Even cover the Caps a bit. (then no games for 5 days I think)

Also had a great quote from Cam at his Cams Champs luncheon today. Something like:
Kid: Did it hurt bad when your leg got cut?
Cam: well, y’know. I looked down to see what happened and my muscle was looking back at me.

Apparently he’s off crutches. Good news. (They tweeted a photo)
