Ok guys I had to recycle a few of my same thoughts from after the Atlanta game and look up a few of the previous quotes from our strong leaders - which I think helps make my point.

I find this old press release from JR and Mo interesting about now:

"Maurice also stressed that the team would keep the attacking style that was brought in under Laviolette, but there would be adjustments on the defensive side to better evaluate when the team should be aggressive and when they should play conservatively — another criticism Rutherford had of Laviolette following last season."

Earth to JR and MO - You might want to ask Lavi how to not give up back to back 5 goal leads - just a thought because I don't think your defensive strategy is working out. Mo - did you say something about having the Canes attacking? Be nice to Lavi and maybe he can give you a powerpoint explaining that the word "attack" usually means advancing forward. That was some damn nice attacking you did on back to back nights - please don't sell your secret sauce.

Another previous quote:
"Rutherford even mentioned — albeit briefly — that perhaps not everyone in the locker room had been accepted, and that team chemistry and rebuilding confidence are the main tasks at hand."

Earth to JR and MO - Mo has such a good style with an unique ability to suck the confidence out of you – For example we have Babchuck who could deliver a missile from the point – teams were scared of his shot -what does Mo do – bench him in the Stanley cup playoffs and then scratches his head and says the guys confidence is struggling – No Shit - you just benched him during his childhood dream. The way JR and Mo play favorites, it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t send Cam Ward down to Albany and bring in Tripp Tracy. Could this be the big shake up? Tripp – will you work for free – we have no money. As for Ward – tell him we want him to go to Albany and work on his confidence.

Does anybody think JR plays favorites:

Look at Lavi’s record last year when he got fired:
 12-11-2

Look at Mo’s record to date:
5-16-5

NEWS FLASH: JR and MO - You should thank Lavi for the chemistry that got you where you went last year. It was called getting players back and sending 2/3 of the temporary team back to Albany. Mo - you haven't had anywhere near the adversity this team had under Lavi.

(somebody help me fill in this data)

Look at Lavi’s man games lost last year to this point

Look at Mo’s man games lost to date

Earth to JR & MO - do either of you have any people skills? These are professionals and very talented - if you can't make them play for you - maybe it’s because you suck at leadership and they tune out every bit of advice you give them. It’s more like you haven’t earned their respect. You can only crack the whip so much - you guys are in left field and Peter K should step up - fire you both and invite a real coach with a proven track record of doing "Whatever It Takes" out to lunch.  It would be a starting point - staying aggressive would fill more seats at the RBC center in the future then the BS management style these guys are doing for you now.  At least you could run a few new commercials – the one about Mo being the most winnnest coach in franchise history is getting comical. We all think of about 5 more titles that POS has earned  - only coach to give up 10 goals in back to back 3rd periods, only coach to loose 14 straight games, only coach lose every road game this season, only coach to need 5 other coaches holding his hand….you get the point.

Peter - Bring Lavi home!

and following

Yes, I second you on it. I just realized that Peter is the supreme person here. I believe he cares about the team, just interesting if he reads this blog?

All above is my personal opinion.

let the new GM

bring back Lavi. From what I understand, Rutherford didn’t like PL because he wasn’t a “can’t we all just get along” yes man. The real issue with the team is the incestuous relationship between owner, GM and coach. We are all spectators, watching friends run a franchise into the ground. We need a new GM. Let him decide who within or outside of the organization fits his model of a coach

Nice Rant

And you signed up just to post this ?

As I recall Babchuk had like 2 goals until January. He blossomed under Mo. He also looked like a deer-in-the-headlights in the playoff games he was in. I recall an underdog ‘Canes team , under Mo, basically without Babchuk, making it to the ECF. But that was "Lavi’s" chemistry residue ?

I also recall that under “Lavi” the ‘Canes missed the playoffs two straight years after winning the Cup. I don’t think that’s ever been done either.

And who will ever forget Lavi’s masterful handling of the lineup’s at the end of ’07-08 ?

I love the internets. It allows anyone to say anything. Or nothing at all.

Babchuk was a deer in the headlights in the finals, but that is not unusual for teams or players in the playoffs for the first time. He was a young defender who just needed some time to learn and should have been back. Obviously neither Babchuk nor JR were interested enough to make his return a reality. Having his shot on the point certainly helped during the last twenty games last year, and likely would have helped this year as well. Mo was a great foil for Lavi’s system, unfortunately the system he has put in place is too much like the clutch and hold of 2002, only you can no longer grab on to opposing players. Mo needs to find the way to get the positive action of the first two periods from the last couple of games continued for sixty minutes. Unfortunately it looks to me like the team is shutting down once he tells them to go into a defensive shell. then they get over aggressive. and get scored on.

I don’t think this is too great of a point seeing as this team looks EXACTLY like the team that finished dead last in the 2002-2003 season under the direction of Maurice. Horrible offense, 20 passes before each shot (which is directed right into the chest of the goalie), bad powerplay, ect. Maurice was then replaced by Lavi early next season who turned the team into a Stanley Cup champion after the lockout year.

Mo sounds a bit worse than Lavi in my opinion, especially seeing as after only one off-season he beat his awful play system into the players heads and now they are playing not to lose every game.

Lavi’s ‘05—06 team was hugely different from the ’03-’04 team. apples and oranges.
I was not so much defending Mo as responding to the mean-spirirted snarky rant aspect of the post. Not my finest moment but somtimes I like a good fight.

Clarity

I think the point the poster was making, is not so much about Babchuck as an individual player, but that Maurice has poorer people skills as a coach than Lavi. We can look at individual cases but in general, Maurice plays favorites, plays vets and isn’t known as a coach to bring young players into the fold. Lavi seemed to be more of a people-person coach. He did team building exercises outside of the rink and introduced the Dads’ Weekend. He’s the reason any of us even know who Chad LaRose and Andrew Ladd are. I think he played who needed to be played regardless of the name on the jersey.

Despite all the disappointment this season, can’t wait till game time tonight!

Great points re: Dad’s trip and team building. Can’t imagine Mo implementing those.

But it was Mo who allowed Babchuk to play. And Kaberle did not. He played Sutter last year probably longer than he should have.

I’m all for reasoned, and even passionate debate.
