I just heard on 99.9 (Mike M) that Whitney is out and Boychuk is in tonight. Can anyone confirm?

Let's go Canes!
Hakkaa Paalle!

by hockeymomof2 on Nov 6, 2009 6:33 PM EST reply actions

They called him up. Why piss away a plane ticket, it’s not like a coaching contract or anything…

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions

We have to be tight with our money...

…There are NHL games in Europe that Compuware needs to sponsor.

Hmmm Lavi is coaching in Europe, I think I see a pattern…

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 6:47 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah Lavis Team won tonight vs Germany 3:2 SO

by CanesTown on Nov 6, 2009 6:49 PM EST reply actions

“Zach Boychuk will skate on a line with Erik Cole and Matt Cullen tonight against Toronto. The puck drops at 7:08 p.m. at the RBC Center.”

Now that’s exciting!!!!
Where’s our boy CG?

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

The depth chart still has him listed on the 4th line. BALONEY.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

And baloney is my version of stronger words.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 6:57 PM EST up reply actions

Boychuk with Cullen and Cole on the 2nd line. Ruutu and the Juice on the first line along with _________.

Maybe Sutter can still get those 4th line minutes?

by caniac4ever on Nov 6, 2009 6:50 PM EST reply actions

Mo says on 99.9 that Brandon WILL be in the top 9.

by caniac4ever on Nov 6, 2009 6:54 PM EST reply actions

hey all

Boychuk on Cullen’s line with Cole. Jokinen centering Samsonov and Ruutu. Sutter centering Brind’Amour, LaRose. Walker, Yelle, Kostopoulos. from ice chip

GM of CanesCountry.com

by Bob Wage on Nov 6, 2009 6:59 PM EST reply actions

I like it!

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks for that Bob. The depth chart is in serious need of updating and I was getting a little concerned.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

the good news is that Sutter should get about the same ice time as Brindy, other than powerplay time

GM of CanesCountry.com

by Bob Wage on Nov 6, 2009 6:59 PM EST reply actions

I can’t believe Brindy is still getting PP time..

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

or centering a line..

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

Boychuck is in position to have the game of his life!! Can you even imagine what it’s like getting called up to a losing team that you thought you made and start on the second line?

I’d puke, hope he does better. If he can find a way to get settled, his speed will be apparent.

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:02 PM EST reply actions

Boychuck looks stoked!! I hope the cocky little shit gets a hat trick!!

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:04 PM EST reply actions

And Sutter notches the primary assists on all of them. I wonder how long it will be before the two of them play on the same line.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

Mo won’t like it, but if we go down two I’d stick ‘em together and hope. Ain’t nothin’ else worked this year..

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

Mo may actually implode to have both young guns out there at once. And if they ever were out on the PP together…holy cow.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

Boychuck, Cullen and Sutter with a rock would be the best short handed threat we can muster.

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Sutter, Boychuck and Cole would be a line I’d love to see…

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

I like the sound of that. I think they need a bigger body out there to give them some space and protection; Cole may work well in that role.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Watched Boychuck at the morning skate today. He’s small but fast.

by hip_check on Nov 6, 2009 7:05 PM EST reply actions

Yea he’s right on the edge of too fast to hit and small enough to kill…

I’m hoping for fast tonight.

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

small enough to kill

Haha, oh man.

by hip_check on Nov 6, 2009 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

Watch out everyone-Tripp is between the benches tonight. Weird things go down when he’s between the benches.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:11 PM EST reply actions

Lines look jumbled alreeady, theres Cole, wheres the kid?

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 7:11 PM EST reply actions

First PP coming up-do we see Boychuk?

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

Yes I guess he’s out there. Maybe Mo heard JR’s mandate.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:15 PM EST up reply actions

Is that the backstreet boys I hear?

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

So Mo thinks this kid isnt a top 9 player?

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 7:22 PM EST reply actions

To Sutter’s credit he’s making it almost impossible not to think that.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

And by that I mean-not to think he is.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

Just shows the stubbornness of Mo

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

He keeps scoring and Mo will have no choice but to come around.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

Boychuck looks out of place, by that I mean he is hustling and has a good nose for the net lol

by wylde4canes on Nov 6, 2009 7:27 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Gee almost looks like the run and gun team that used to win now and again…

A

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 7:44 PM EST reply actions

These two teams are not playing like the last two. Pretty good effort on both sides. I think we have more jump and our 1st string twine protector.

You and Wylde were talkin about sending my kids down if they get puny minutes and I ran a diatribe about an alternative and that I disagreed.

More to illustrate the point that they need top 9 minutes

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 8:57 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, never side with Wylde, he’s always pulling my chain and we like to be contrary to eachother. It also sounded like the crap early in the year about these kids needing some mysterious magical exper. in the NHL. I think this is exactly what they and the team needs.

No offene, I’m sensitive to these two in particular. I think everyone is seeing why.

A

Meant AHL, that spelling thing..

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

What even happened to Procton? He was the loudest of the “keep the kids in the AHL” crowd.

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on Nov 6, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions

He had a point. I still believe they would be better served in the long run by playing tons of minutes a night in the AHL than 4 a night in the NHL. And for a while, that looked like that was going to be the case here, until JR spoke up. It wasn’t that they weren’t ready-it’s clear that they are. It was a looking out for their development thing.

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

I think you were. He and I fire cheap shots at each other or take a stand on something we may not actually believe to get the ire up of the other. You +1 him on the send down thing so I just lumped you two together and fired away. So while you were making a point he and I were sparring over something that was more vaccous than an actual point. (cause he’s vaccous)

not in the direction you’d like? but 60 minutes of play? No points, but good game?

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

They played a good game, but still lost to the second worst team in the NHL. That doesn’t make me feel any better about this team. Our best is only good enough to be the worst…

by East of Here on Nov 6, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

Right, but I’d argue that a week ago, we would have gotten scored on the first time and then completely fallen apart leading to a final tally of say 5-2.

It’s not much, and it’s not nearly enough, but it’s something.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

That something is called “suckage”. This team has no heart and no direction (other than down). The only reason it looked like we played a good game is because Toronto sucks too. Granted, they suck less than we do, but they still suck. We’ve earned our spot in the cellar. We belong there.

by East of Here on Nov 6, 2009 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree totally about the heart comment.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

There are a couple of individual players still playing with heart. But the team has none. Maybe I should have said the team had no clear “identity” or “leader”. That would have made my point more clear.

by East of Here on Nov 6, 2009 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

Ok that makes more sense. I read “no heart” as “not caring” and I don’t think that’s the case. They care. Maybe too much in fact.

But no identity is definitely something I’ll agree with.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

Forslund is talking about that. How the team just can’t find it’s identity.

Let's go Canes!

I am not John Forslund. This is just coincidence…

by East of Here on Nov 6, 2009 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

I didn’t think we got 60, the second hurt us again. I’d say fair effort in the third, but the second killed us with a bad nasty softy by Ward. No points for sure, game was about like last time except maybe a little more dynamic from the Boychuck addition and line make up.

Teams got some baggage it needs to trim, we’ll see if they make the right trim choices.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 9:29 PM EST reply actions

That was the so close part.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

I thought the so close part was the good game played and scored 2 goals and lost by only one

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

That all kind of plays into the “up by two” thing.

I’m angry at the luck I think for tonight

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

Good point-but I’m not so sure they could have done anything differently. And I think that’s where their problem is. They play well and still don’t win. It’s got to eat at them.

Except maybe our Campion Wardolie. Tonight was not stellar for him.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I think that probably what frustrates me most about tonight. They showed up for this game and it would have helped heal the team psyche in the longer term for them to have won with that kind of appearance… and for it not to happen, makes it even less likely that they’ll put out a full effort some other night, because the one night they did… Nothin’
Big fat 0 for points.

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

This team lacks stones. I have noticed we have not been able to respond to about anything all year. That’s a sign of a team. Shit happens you respond if you are winner, you crumble…well you get it.

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

I thought we responded actually. We’ve seen games when they haven’t (Boston comes to mind). Their goalie was better than ours period.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

Not the way I would of liked. Responding with a death throw when tapped in the head doesn’t help much..

My .02 anyway.

A

by Paladin6 on Nov 6, 2009 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

I have no idea what that meant.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

Odd ref. to fishing. You spend the big deal on baiting and catching and then reeling in the fish only to totaly dominate it and smack it in the back of the mellon to kill it. So by the time the actual final blow is dealt the battle/sport was way over. That’s kinda where the canes are, no sport left, just a whack on the mellon and onto the fillet board.

Funny how sometimes I/we see the game differently than they do. I remember a couple of games ago Tripp saying how they had played such a great game when we all thought how awful the play had been… and then today when at least the effort was there for most/all of the game that I watched (I assume with 2 goals in the 1st that the effort was there then – though I did watch the second but the bar is so low at this time…) Forslund complains about the lack of 60 mins…

SUtter won 7 faceoffs.
We had 29 hits to their 19.

That may not be such a good thing

Anger at each other? Or anger that they couldn’t get it done?

Directed at whom?
Yeah, what CG said…

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

Well – if there’s anger then at least they’re past denial. I’d bet anger at the refs or just anger = frustration. Bob can fill us in.

Its a good thing I’m not home, there would not be any liquor left in the house, on the bright side I have 2 1/2 hours to cool off, I don’t think they were bad tonight, still there’s something missing other than a W. I just don’t get it ;(

that thing thats missing… is execution. you can’t win when you can’t finish those chances you get.

I thought Gustavsomething was everything he was supposed to be and more. He made some amazing post-to-post stops. And as fragile as the Canes are, once they believed he was a wall, the game was lost.

by hockeymomof2 on Nov 6, 2009 10:16 PM EST up reply actions

Bingo. He was good; lived up to all the hype IMO. But anytime this team runs into a hot goalie (or even a good goalie), they aren’t going to be able to shake him. They are just too…fragile.

His confidence is starting to take hits too. He looked fragile tonight too. Even John and Tripp mentioned it.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

And that doesn’t inspire the team in front of him. They need to quit taking him for granted. I thought Gleason and AWard were great. I still would like to see Rodney (maybe McBain though I don’t think he’s ready) get a shot if Walling gets H1N1. Maybe I can send him some cookies my boys have coughed on a few times (they both have it now).

Wishful thinking, huh? Hey, doesn’t nicky have kids? get yours to befriend his… and get them sick?

I’m such a girl. I have a hard time getting down on a guy who’s such a decent guy. Wallin, Leights and Walker are such genuinely good guys that I almost can’t be mean to them.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 10:33 PM EST up reply actions

true, but sometimes ya gotta wish them off the ice for a brief period… (or in leight’s case, on the ice more often under better circumstances)

I feel the same way about all of them. So I’ve decided to quit worrying about the standings and go back to what I’ve always loved about the Canes. Priorities.

Sammi had a helluva game I thought. Cole had 5 hits. Zach had 2 – here I thought he was the next Whitney. Maybe Ray needs to take notes.

I thought Ruutu looked fragile. Injured or still not over the suspension?

by hockeymomof2 on Nov 6, 2009 10:30 PM EST up reply actions

Ruutu-combination of both IMO.

Sammi-good game. Less dancing and more playmaking which I liked.

Cole-I think he really enjoyed playing with Zach. Nothing like a little squirt to keep you honest.

Did you see the shot of Zach in the lockerroom putting his skates on? I think he’s got more bulk to him than Whitney which may be an asset for us.

Oh my god. You missed the BEST part of the whole night.

They showed Sammi and John’s voice over said that they thought experience would be enough, but it wasn’t. Then they show this guy (who I didn’t recognize right away) lacing up his skates sans shirt. John’s voice over says how they hope an infusion of youth will be the difference. The mystery guy kind of looks up and I realized it was Boychuk. They then show Brandon sitting in his stall fully dressed.

Without getting too NC-17 on here, Boychuk has a baby face, but looks like a 25 year old without his shirt on.

Rush through it as best you can. From my point of view (in Acceptance) I really enjoyed the game. I thought there was a lot to be proud of. It was entertaining. I loved watching Boychuk looking like a sponge – did you see the expression on his face while Ronnie’s was diagramming that last PP? he was in hog heaven – it was beautiful. And Cole has found his “next Eric” in Zach, to mentor. A great thing to watch.

I love Gleason wearing the A as well.

Did you see the look on his face during Tripp’s interview? It was a combination of frustration at being pulled away from the game and annoyance that this little man was asking stupid questions.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

that particular little man always asks stupid questions – I would really have liked to have seen the look on timmy ’that’s what happens when you suck’ gleason’s face…

by Andrea's evil twin on Nov 6, 2009 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

He kept glancing away from the camera, trying to keep his eye on what was happening on the ice. And got more and more terse as it went on. There was even a shrug at one point.

And it’s Tim “I’m going to expletive deleted you up” Gleason.

by caniacgirl on Nov 6, 2009 10:30 PM EST up reply actions

Mike Maniscalco

just commented that Gleason will make a heckuva captain – no doubt. He didn’t say of the Canes tho.

I love Gleason’s accent.

I thought Tuomo looked non-Ruu-like in his interview. missed the smile from the courtside interview.

Mike M just named Boychuk the winger of the night, behind Sammi.

Dear Canes,

I just wanted to point out a few things to you, since you saw fit to waste my money again tonight.

First, to Erik Cole. Erik, all the flash and drive and daring drives to the goal don;t mean sh$# if you slam the puck right into the goalie’s left leg every time.

Second, Aaron. Aaron, Aaron, Aaron. What can I say? Go get a cape and a sword and move to Mexico City. Did you stude Frank KaberOle over the summer and decide to fill his spot? Did Scott Walker’s wicked right hand cause amnesia that resulted in an inability to remember how to seal off your man? Or are you just old?

Third. Cam, glove side high. GLOVE SIDE HIGH. For crying out loud. Get a bigger glove.

Fourth. Brindy, just become the conditioning coach already. THe one we have succeeds in getting the whole team hurt every year. At least in that job, you wouldnm’t be scrambling to keep up with kids half your age.

Fifth. Rutherford. You could have taken the money you wasted oin Harrison and Yelle and used it to re-sign Babchuck so we would have someone who actually shot the puck from the point occasionally. Or you could have re-signed Seidenberg. You know, a defenseman who knew that his job was to keep the puck inside the blueline when we’re on offense and outside the blueline when we’re on defense? Yeah, one of those guys.

Oh, and brilliant move keeping Sutter and Boychuck bottled up in Albany for the first 9 games of this losing streak. Brilliant. WHat a judge of talent. It’s ok. I;‘m sure you’ll appreciate them once they are 38 and have played for another team for 10 years. You’ll bring them back for too much money then.

Blow up the team. Blow it up. Trade everyone over 28 for draft picks. Fire the coaching staff. Sign the guys fromt he NCSU club team and put them on the ice for 5 bucks a game. I’d pay to watch that.
