Realistically, expectations are not being met on any level in Carolina. Age is a huge issue with this team, as several of the key players that we planned on contributing this season are struggling, i.e. Rod, Yelle, Ward. What we need is to let the team platy through this until at least Olympic break. Let the veteran players that still have value (Cullen, Whitney, Walker) continue to display their skills, while other contending teams assess their needs to make a playoff push. A lot of teams over compensate right around the deadline rent a player (remember ATL giving up Brayden Coburn for Alexei Zhitnik a few years back). Stock piling draft picks will be a huge necessity if we intend on establishing a strong prospect pool.
Once we trade away some of those older players we can bring up Boychuk, maybe Bowman, and personally I think Jerome Samson deserves a shot, to play top 9 minutes. The development of these players will not be helped if we bring them up now and give them 7 minutes a game. Jeff Daniels is a well trusted coach that will help their development and prepare them to make the jump when they are needed or ready.
