This season, if nothing else, should bless the team with the ability to draft one of the top two players. For now, and this may all change with the world juniors next week, let's assume the current thinking holds true and the top two picks are Taylor Hall (LW) and Tyler Seguin (C). Both are good players, and both bring different skill sets to the table. A wrinkle got thrown in to the decision making last night when Staal was moved to the wing with Jokinen at center.
So, here's my question: Would you prefer drafting Taylor Hall as a LW on Eric Staal's line or would you prefer drafting Tyler Seguin and moving Staal to his wing? Staal has had issues early in his career with poor face off performance, but that has much improved over the last two seasons. He's also dominated games for long periods of time, which is difficult to do at wing. He's also been, shall we say less than visible as opposed to invisible, for stretches of time.
Personally, I'd take Taylor Hall because I think he's the one more likely to be a true goal scorer, which is what I think this team needs. I also think that a pure goal scorer will help Staal's game immensely. But I'm curious if anyone would prefer the Seguin route and moving Staal to his wing. Also, if you have any other ideas, like taking Cam Fowler or the Russian kid I'd love to hear it.
