Possible Defensemen to Obtain Via Trade -- Another Work in Progress


I think the Hurricanes need to add a puck-moving defenseman who can score on the power play.  Here is the start of some potential defensemen.  I will continue to add to the list.

Assets    Possesses a hard, accurate shot from the point, which is especially effective on the power play. Can play a physical brand of hockey.

Flaws     Must improve his decision-making and defensive-zone coverage in order to become a complete blue-liner. Needs more game-to-game consistency.

Career Potential               Aggressive offensive defenseman.

Assets Moves very well for a 6-5, 220-pound defender and owns both offensive and all-around potential. Is capable of logging big minutes and playing on either side of the ice.

Flaws  Doesn't use his huge frame enough to his advantage, which limits his effectiveness. Is somewhat raw in the offensive zone. Needs to display more consistency in all facets of the game.

Career Potential          Big-minute defenseman.

Scouting Report


  • Is one of the best shot-blocking defensemen in NHL history, and thrives in one-on-one battles against top forwards. Plays with tremendous poise. Has a mean streak and is not shy about hitting the opposition.


  • Won't scare anybody with his offensive ability, since he lacks confidence with the puck. Needs to pick his spots better when lining up opponents. His shot-blocking leads to injuries.

Career Potential

  • Shutdown defenseman.

  • Is an efficient, reliable defender who limits his mistakes. Can put up points and also log loads of ice time in all game situations.


  • Must better handle the physical style of the NHL game. Needs more bulk for his 6-2 frame, and needs to start avoiding the injury bug.

Career Potential

  • Top four defenseman.
