Tlusty is a very talented player … didn’t fit the Burke mold. Paradis was a reach, IMO, where we picked him. This could work out well.

Confirmation that we flushed our first rounder down the toilet just as the organization has done so often over the years.

Tlusty scored five in a game with the Marlies last year, IIRC.

Ok word of advice. DO NOT google him if your browser offers you images along with websites. Trust me. Just don’t.

Also from HF … he was No. 43 prospect by them last fall. Alex Goligoski was 42, Joe Colborne was 44. Good company.

The Canes might have turned a bit on Paradis after seeing him at conditioning camp, who knows. (shrugs) He did not exactly turn any heads there.

Has anyone posted the Branecky stor on this? seems like this comes with the recommendation and experience of former Leafs coach (………time to guess…….) Paul Maurice.

I had been collecting a list of potential power forwards and had Jiri Tlusty on my list. According to reports he has great speed, excellent hands, and is a natural scorer.I posted about it already so I won’t re-post in this link. I liked Paradis’ potential, but he was still likely to be two years away from the NHL.

  It seems to me that with Sutter, Boychuk, Bowman, Tlusty, and the entry draft pick (somewhere between #1 and #5 in all likelihood), there are five spots taken in the top nine. It seems inarguable that Jim Rutherford is on his way toward transitioning the team toward younger, faster, (and I keep hoping) larger players. I looks to me like Staal, Ruutu, Jokinen, and Cole or Cullen are staying; but that is a pure guess. I can’t see any of those nine being put on a fourth line with the possible exception of Bowman.

Although the Hurricanes have traded young talent to get young talent, General Manager Jim Rutherford said that his team would benefit from having a more NHL-ready prospect and that Tlusty’s skill set better suits the organization going forward.

"They’re two different types of players," said Rutherford. "We need to score more goals and we need to have skill. In our opinion, Philippe is more along the lines of a power forward and Jiri is more skilled to where we project him being able to put up points in our top six.

"We’re going through a stretch now where we’re a low-scoring team," added Rutherford. "You can have all the bigger, physical guys that you want, but if you can’t score enough goals it’s not going to do you any good. In this case, I’m dealing with trying to put a player in our lineup by the start of next season that’s going to be able to help produce points."

JR doesn’t regard him as a power forward – I thought of you first ADog.

This is how you end up picking early in the draft rounds. Play at the NHL level what is probably AHL talent at the moment, once you open up a roster spot for them.

Also, since we’re going to be stripping the Albany River Rats of some of their major talent, they’re going to need reinforcements, later this year and next. That’s more likely Tlusty than Paradis on a short-term basis.

I do see it as a good fit for both orgs. Burke wants a chance at a big-body power forward (something Paradis is not now, but may be some day) and is in no particular hurry for it to happen. We want someone with some hands that can put it in the net, and ideally sooner, instead of later.

It’s first-rounder for first-rounder, different roles, and two years apart on the development curve. Seems like the essence of what can be characterized as a good trade for both orgs.

I have followed Tlusty as a possible power forward for the Hurricanes, although I had wished he was 6’3" and heavier. I think Jim Rutherford prefers the Ruutu, Cole, Tlusty style of power forward — strong and skilled, but not hulking beasts. I had hoped and continue to hope that the Hurricanes will add a Bryan Bickell kind of power forward. There could be room on the fourth line for that kind of player. Kirill Kabanov is 6’3" and can play the role of a fast, skilled, and natural scorer power forward. Taylor Hall is 6’2" and can also play that role as well. Next year the Hurricanes are going to be crazy fast on the ice.

I agree 100%. It sounds like somebody is about to leave the Hurricanes premises. It might be LaRose; but Cullen or Whitney seem more likely to me.

Reading the Leafs thread on this trade it doesn’t seem they’re very happy.

If he gets called up, I just want to know who his roommate is. It won’t be Gleason I can tell you that much. Sutter stay away!

This trade boils down to a waste of a first rd pick. They drafted the wrong guy (again) and flipped him for someone who is alreadyproving themself to be a waste of a first round pick, be yes I was familiar with tlusty before this trade and it wasn’t just because the whole world saw his Czech pilsner

I like the move. I never did like the Paradis draft pick, so I’m biased, but it looks like Tlusty will be able to contribute next season. I’d like to see if he can develop some chemistry with Boychuk and some of our other rising peeps. But really, all this is for getting someone who can play sooner than Paradis. I mean we need help now, but there’s a big difference in 1 season and 3-4 seasons. And offense? c’mon. Now we need to draft a d-man with a big accurate shot from the point (I can’t believe I’m talking about the draft in December…)

There are so many different ways this trade may lead…fodder for another trade, replenishing the Rats so someone can come up, banking a player for next year. Like the majority of the AWESOME CANES COUNTRY SITE GO BOB AND CORY fans here, I think this is just a step, a feint, a building block for the pimp-hand’s plans

  I started working on lines for 2010-2011 to see how the Tlusky trade impacts the team. I assumed that Sutter would stay in the top nine.
