Canucks at Hurricanes: Game Day Preview - (UPDATE)
The hot Vancouver Canucks, (16-12-0) are in town to take on the slumping Carolina Hurricanes, (5-17-5), for a matinee game on Saturday afternoon at the RBC. The Canucks have played well lately. They have won two in a row and four of their last five, while the Canes have lost five in a row.
The last place Hurricanes have 15 points, eight points behind their closest rival Toronto, and 14 points out of a playoff spot.
((UPDATE)) Of course you had to know that if I put Luongo's info up here, Andrew Raycroft would get the start.
The Canucks are led by the only goalie captain in the league, Roberto Luongo. Luongo will get the day off and Andrew Raycroft will face Manny Legace, who will be making his seventh start for the Canes.
Vancouver is led in scoring by Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler.
Carolina is led by Jussi Jokinen, Tuomo Ruutu, Matt Cullen, and Ray Whitney. Cullen has a four game point streak. Jokinen has been hurt and will be a game time decision.
Vancouver just played two straight games on Wednesday and Thursday nights in New Jersey and Philadelphia. Carolina has had a few days off and has not played since their loss to Washington at home Monday night. The team will go on a four game road trip after this game.
For more information about the current lines and defensive pairings, check out the post-practice thread put up on Friday.
Nucks Misconduct has the latest and greatest about the Canucks and apparently they are none too pleased about this early start.
The puck drops at 1:30 Eastern time and the game will be telecast locally by FS Carolinas. We will have the open game thread starting up at 1. Can the Canes get off the slide?

Raycroft....
…can show Wardo how to properly flame out and not live up to your potential.

Steve Yzerman in the house...
to see if Staal can score on the likely #1 goalie for Canada, no doubt.
Would help if I had more carefully read Andrea’s evil twin’s post above.
Yzerman’s probably disappointed, too.
Maybe he’s coming to see if Staal can score at all.
I hope someone let’s Staal know about it so he can battle hard for some goals instead of giving up and pouting every time he shoots the puck 2 feet wide of the next.
It will be interesting to see how (if) Staal responds. Wonder if this visit was planned awhile ago and he had hoped to see Luongo vs Ward.

Oh, he knows he’s auditioning, all right.
Word was he was still out after practice was over a couple of days ago, working on tight angle shots in close.
He’s wrap around has gotten this team many many goals.

We have two goaltenders who let in 5 in the 3rd (in separate games) just one week ago….

Ha…ok you win, but you are technically getting him off his worst outing this season.

From the canes' site game preview: Walker is out, Rosey is questionable.
Depth chart is same as yesterday with Jussi at #5 LW…Stay tuned I guess.

Also thinking of the rumor that Walker was on the trading block, along with AWard.

Pitkanen/Gleason pairing
Injury inspired to be sure, but I don’t remember seeing this permutation among all the line and pairing shuffling that’s been going on. Believe that Gleason has been nailed to Corvo, unless someone has info differently.
But this is a pairing that I’ve wanted to see work. Fortuitous to this game is that both of these Western Conference transfers have seen the Sedin twins in action before, since that is who they will surely face.
Tough debut, but it’s splash/swim time boys.
The stat that always excites we Canucks fans, even though most of us don’t really know it…like me…!
Is that the Canucks over the last 6 years are something like 50 something-15-2 or close to that against Eastern teams. Even in years like a couple past where they missed ther playoffs.
This game should be spirited though, just because the team will want to give Raycroft support to keep it going. Expect a more defensive game while jumping on Canes mistakes.
Ohh…and… Hi…
sound like a fun bunch over here that like their puck as much as Canadians…nothing wrong with that…we are all members of the Puck Society…
We all hate Briere too? I was wondering, you guys get more of the East…has he become a total douche since joining Philly?
(First spear I have seen for a while called…dirtiest play in hockey!)
Peace
The earliest use of the word with the spelling we recognize today is found in "L'Acadie: or Seven Years' Exploration in British America" by James Edward Alexander, published in 1849:
We also met a lusty fellow in a forest road with a keg of whisky slung round him who called to us 'Come boys and have some grog, I'm what you call a canuck"
on Briere
become? lol … think he was well on his way in Buffalo.

Feel free to insult any players that spent significant time in Buffalo.
You won’t make any enemies here.
Except for that guy who saw me write a joke about Buffalo on one of our threads, then e-mailed me to harass me.
