The Hurricanes are reporting that Justin Williams fractured a bone in his hand last night in Buffalo and he will miss at least a month of action. The winger had already missed 25 games because of a ruptured Achilles tendon at the beginning of the season.

For now, Patrick Eaves will move up and take his spot along with Ray Whitney and Matt Cullen on the second line.

Does this put more pressure on Jim Rutherford to add another body before the trade deadline?

by Bob Harwood Waeghe on Feb 16, 2009 2:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I would say YES!

Although the team can relieve that pressure very quickly with some losses.

So sad to see J W struggling with injuries like this, he can be one of our most dynamic players.

Question...

Bubba, will the Canes lean more on Sutter now?

by joemullen#7 on Feb 16, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I doubt it. It looks like they do not want to put too much pressure on the rookie and they seem perfectly happy playing him 4rth line minutes. Up to this point that has been the case, but we will see if it changes.

i wonder why moving Eaves up to 2nd instead of Rosie. Larose and Cullen’s SH chemistry seems so outstanding i would think of him moving up instead of Eaves. Either way cant help but feel bad for Williams.

by Blacklisted on Feb 16, 2009 3:02 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

it seems thats the way they will go now. i guess they just need a game or two to get it right. Should have asked you,lol (that was not sarcasm by the way ;)

Hey Williams need to go and the end of the season, he is just not the same dynamic player he was before he injuried his knee for the second time in his career. Getting Cole back would be nice but I doubt they would go that route. I have faith in Mr. Rutherford he has pulled off some great trades before and lets hope he has one more or a couple in his bag of tricks this offseason.

Go Canes. Cannot wait until Glen Wesley nite he is so definately miss on our defensive line that it is a joke.

HAVE YOU SEEN ERIK COLE

Because Edmonton sure hasnt. I would never even think about letting Williams go. I wouldnt trade him for 10 Erik Coles. Williams finaly got his legs backs before he was injured. Williams is a nice piece. Dont give up on him yet.

Cole was on fire for a few weeks and still only has like 12 goals and 10 assist. (its been a week or two since ive checked) Those numers are Chad LaRose like.

Williams is in a different league.

That of coarse is just my opinion.

NO LOSS

This is no big loss, he’s part of our scoring problem. Three goals for the season is pathetic for he’s position. Maybe they will see that upstairs while he’s out, and maybe trade him for someone that can score GOALS.

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 3:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I couldn't agree more.

This is not a big loss, as Williams really has done nothing this year. He has had horrible luck with injuries, but the leg injuries may have taken their toll, atleast for this year. It remains to be seen if he can return to where he once was, but he certainly did not have it this year.

Carolina may have a new coach next year, maybe an ex-Penguin coach?

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Jesus that would be the final straw for me and JR.

NO MICHEL TERRIEN PLEASE!
That guy is the biggest whiner when things aren’t going well, and the biggest gloater when they are.

by Iggy Reilly on Feb 16, 2009 3:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

So thats where Crosby gets he’s whining from.

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 4:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Dude…. have you been losing sleep again? Michel Terrien would be a disaster waiting to happen.

Is he the only head coach to lead his team in (playoff) penalty minutes?? (I’m sort-of joking)

by Mateos_Canes_Lamp on Feb 16, 2009 4:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I was just joking, we all know JR’s best friend will be back next year……..I’m assuming.

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Dang…. I should have tried harder to be JR’s best friend……

by Mateos_Canes_Lamp on Feb 16, 2009 4:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

statistically speaking this is not a huge loss, but Williams can’t get back to his former self unless he’s on the ice. Another set back for him.

by Bob Harwood Waeghe on Feb 16, 2009 4:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah…. I feel bad for Justin…. it would suck to be out as long as he was out…. only to be out again… and then to come back early…. and then be out again….

that would suck….

I’m starting to not feel too well….. I might have to be on “Day-To-Day” status at work…. (caugh caugh)

by Mateos_Canes_Lamp on Feb 16, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Eaves and Williams is seeing who can miss the most games. Not that it’s always their doing, sometimes its just bad luck ( or bad playing) .

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 4:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Eaves?

Am I the only one a little worried that we are playing Eaves in the top 6 when the guy doesn’t even have double digit points? He plays with some grit, I will give him that. But I just don’t see him getting the job done.

by TOS on Feb 16, 2009 5:29 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Did you see his goal in Pheonix?

he is capable of producing points. I think more minutes for Eaves will be good. Granted, it is make or break time for him, I doubt he gets another chance, but for a guy who works as hard as he does lately, hopefully this will come with increased production.

by Iggy Reilly on Feb 16, 2009 5:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He’s just not that good, we only have him because they wouldn’t let us have Corvo without taking there dead weight ( Eaves).

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He is 24.

I know he isn’t going to be a 30 goal scorer for us, but fact is, we are gonna need some production somewhere, and he might be able to provide it.

by Iggy Reilly on Feb 16, 2009 6:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Eaves scored 20 his rookie season and hasn’t really lived up to it since….

He plays hard

but I’d still take Brookbank over him….

WOW

So many people are off of the Willy bandwagon.

Canes cup: he is part of our scoring problem? Have you not been watching the games?
The Cullen line is getting the more preasure in the Ozone than any other line as of late.
True he is not scoring that much but he has turned into quite a playmaker. Cullen is the finisher on that line (not that i like that but look at his stats as a cane).

I dont even think that willy has played with Brind’amour yet this season. That is his normal center. Add it all up: Injured for more than half a season, finding his legs ,new center.

I dont think that Justin Williams is the least of our concern. How about our top line guys, the ones that are supposed to score. they are not quite producing to their talent level IMHO.

Sorry for ranting, but I think that blaming Williams for our scoring problems is insane

by CarolinaCanes on Feb 16, 2009 8:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

WOW?

As I said, Williams is PART of our scoring problem I didn’t say he was the only problem. I’m sorry Williams kinda sucks right now. At least Staal does score one goal every three or so games. The team as a whole is not scoring, thats my point. Sorry if you’re a Willy lover, I’m just looking at the STATS.

by canescup on Feb 16, 2009 9:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Are YOU a Willy lover?
Wahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…………

by Mateos_Canes_Lamp on Feb 17, 2009 4:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I guess you could say im a “willy lover” thats too funny. The cat has skills. He does have a scoring touch around the net, but if you look at his play making ablity you will see that he has matured as a player. His trade mark button hook was finally starting to be effective (his legs were getting back underneath him). His injury was not just a broken finger nail. We will miss him but the good thing is it is an upperbody injury, hopefully his legs will not take a hit.

Justin...who....oh, Williams...yawn

Sorry, yawn, so tired when I think of another Justin Williams injury. Great player, but how many games has he played over the last two years? Answer- not enough to earn that salary. Sorry everyone, but I am getting really sick of dealing with his injuries…he is comprable to a “better version” of Patrick Eaves……but spends the same amount of time on the bench…its just that Williams’ check is a lot bigger….yawn…..Williams is injured again….
