Nice weekend...
but get over it. Every game from here out is our biggest of the year. 4 points on the line against the Rangers tonight. Get it done.
Still not a crook!
GM's meetings and the "new rules" about Fighting.....
{"At the end of the second day of their annual meetings on Tuesday, the GMs’ recommended that players who fight by appointment will receive a 10-minute misconduct penalty in addition to a five-minute major penalty for fighting. The biggest targets for this measure are players who meet at a faceoff and agree to fight. While NHL referees will be granted wide discretion to decide what is a staged fight, almost all fights at faceoffs will result in the additional misconduct penalties."}
I pulled that quote from another blog site…. It didn’t say who the statement came from…
I don’t know that I agree 100% w/ this rule. I can recall an instance where a player from New Jersey (#17 don’t remember his name) absolutely ran Tim Gleason head first into the boards at a game in the RBC last season. The next time this player for New Jersey was on the ice Wade Brookbank came out for our team… and they had a fight at the face off.
Under this new rule that would classify as a “staged fight.” However there could be a strong case made that Wade Brookbank was sticking up for his team mate.
If they are going to be more strict on this aspect of fighting… Then I think they should soften the rule about players leaving the bench. If someone runs another player in a way that could injure him then there has to be some sort of retribution….
