Pens Fan Coming to Game 3

I am a Pens fan living in South Carolina (I am PA transplant) and I have never been to a game in Raliegh. Are there any tips you regulars could give me about my trip?

I am looking to know several things.

  • How is traffic coming into the game? Is it easy access to the arena, or should I arrive four hours early?
  • Is the arena tailgate friendly, I am a Steelers and PSU fan so I have a pedigree to maintain.
  • If it is not a tailgate friendly zone, what resturants, pubs, or bars are located with in a block or so that are hockey friendly?
Thank you for answering ahead of time, and I really anticipate a great series.

very tailgate friendly

the best tailgating in the NHL is at the RBC. traffic isn’t bad at all and access is really easy, just off I-40.

RBC happens to be next to Carter-Finley, AKA – NSCU’s football stadium. tailgaiting is definitely great.

Out-of-towners have complained in the past that there isn’t much activity around the RBC Center as far as night-life goes. The arena is not downtown.

Speaking as someone who grew up tailgating for NCSU Football games and has been tailgating solidly since 2002 for Canes games – I can certainly say there doesn’t need to be any other activity on the grounds there. You will be thoroughly impressed with the scene.

its a great place to see a game!!

I also live in SC, but take in every game we can during the season, I am from SC and my BF is from Pittsburgh, so I will also have my PA transplant with me, lol we went to both pens/canes game in raleigh this year, and although the rbc center is the only place i have ever seen a hockey game, i have always had the most awesome time, no problems finding the arena, its right off I-40, and the traffic was never that bad considering.. lol I just got our tickets for the game on Saturday…. WOOHOO!! what else can i say except GO CANES!!!!!!! it should be another most awesome round for both teams…..

It's horrible

You definitely shouldn’t even bother coming. Stay in Pittsburgh and watch the game on TV.

Get there early and wander around the parking lot.

As long as you mind your manners, you’ll make a whole lot of new friends- the prevailing attitude is, “May the best team win”, with the postscript “However, we think it’ll be the Canes”.

We play our games at the Greensboro Coliseum now. Plenty of parking there.

Go Canes!
