From the Boston Globe: “But in truth, if they had this much trouble against the Canes, they would have had more trouble against the Red Wings, and perhaps the Penguins or even the Blackhawks.”

We still get no respect……..

Oh well, Canes are still playing, the Bruins aren’t.

by Iggy Reilly on May 15, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions

After reading several of the links

What I keep on seeing are things like:

“Boston didn’t show up”

“Pens had a harder series”

yada, yada, yada

Nice to see nothing’s change.

I like where they discuss how hard it will be to play Detroit for the Cup. They haven’t gotten to the NASCAR jokes yet. We are certainly seasoned fans at this point.

And you expected what?

A little acknowledgment that perhaps that ’Canes may actually belong in the “Final Four”

That or how maybe, just maybe it wasn’t the Devils or the Bruins “not showing up” but the ’Canes making them play the style the ’Canes want to play and then beating them?

OBTW, you were supposed to provide me with details on something. Have to go and find it from lat night’s blogging. I’ll get back to you on that.

I saw it lcd – just wasn’t acknowledging the request. I have my limits. sorry to disappoint.

And I really like that the Pen fans haven’t realized we did pretty well against them the last time out. That kind of hubris is exactly what makes the hockey gods tremble – at least in my understanding. (remember a few weeks ago when the Vancouver newpapers published proposed the parade route when the Canucks won the Cup? Man what a waste of paper)

I saw this morning, a Boston writer (Globe or Herald?) blames his team’s demise on their grossly underestimating the Canes. I agree. Hopefully no one will take note in their rush to Detroit (or Chicago?) and we can remain under the radar as Mo likes to say.

Have limits?

Oh bummer.

Sigh, heavy sigh.

I guess beating the #1 and #3 seeds isn't that impressive.

Not to mention beating the best two goalies in the playoffs in back to back series.

If Marty and Timmy are brick-walls, then Fleury is more like a chain-link fence!

Still not a crook!

by TrickyD26 on May 15, 2009 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

Did you say that Marty and Timmy are the best two goalies in the playoffs???

I’d argue that they are behind Cam Ward…. he has been very good and kept his cool in the most pressured times….

I’m still not sure where Tim Thomas was running after Walker put it in……

by Mateos_Canes_Lamp on May 15, 2009 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Obviously I meant after Cam!

Of the four elite goaltenders in the playoffs this year, (Ward, Brodeur, Thomas, Luongu) Cam is the only one left. That will go a long way in helping us out the rest of the way. It certainly will be nice seeing some between the pipes other than the winningest Goalie in history and the probable Vezina winner.

I don’t know Fleury can be pretty good as well.

Damn boy, didn't y'all hear.....

they didn’t play us at all.

Nope, I reckon’ those boys up there from the big cities didn’t bother showen up. It seems, accordin’ to the boys who write first on the paypa before it’s bein’ used on fish, those teams lacked passion.

So my dear boy, the ‘Canes didn’t win, the other teams didn’t play so they done up an’ lost.

hello all!

i am a Canucks fan and a follower of the Nucks Misconduct page here on SBNation. unfortunately, since the nucks have been eliminated, i have resorted to bandwagonning. i am now cheering for your Canes, mainly because Rod Brindamour is from my hometown, and he can bring the Cup home for the 2nd time in 4 years.
i will let my fellow canucks fans know of your site here, and they might also come join you on here.
GO CAROLINA!!!!

GO CANUCKS GO!
well, normally that's the case, but they're out of the playoffs, so i've become a bandwagon jumper.
GO CAROLINA GO!!!!!!!!! BRING THE CUP TO MY HOMETOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice to have you here! I’m sure fans of almost every team can agree on our Crosby hatred!

thanks!
penguins are overrated and have huge egos, especially crosbaby.
as for the west, i’d rather see chicago beat detroit, although they knocked us out. (i still have bitter feelings for anaheim from when they did that to us on the way to their Cup in 2007).
meanwhile, for the Canes, Rod Brindamour is not only from my hometown, but he also went to the same elementary school as me. i’d rather see the Cup make a return trip to our town.

GO CANUCKS GO!

Looks like that was about a 15 year difference there between when you two graced the halls of your school.

well, we weren’t there at the same time, but we had an autographed poster of him in a frame on the wall in the hallway.
i’m much younger than he is.

Hatred of Crosby? Naa, not yet, has not done anything to earn that yet….unlike Orpik, who broke Cole’s neck a few years ago.

by lrcaniac on May 15, 2009 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

ditto, I don’t too many folks who “hate” Crosby. Like him or not, he and Malkin are a great team, and the Canes are going to have to shut them down if they want to get through this round.

I cried when the nucks lost. I was hoping for a nucks/canes final, especially since they haven’t been here since maybe Oct 2007… or something ridiculously long ago.
But alas…

by Andrea's evil twin on May 15, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

that would have been brutal to cheer for. do i root for the team that plays in the city across the strait, or do i root for the guy that could bring the cup to my town?
we had a similar dillema in 2006, since we also wanted a canadian team to win the cup, but then edmonton faced you guys.
nucks/canes final would be worse.

I know – I was in Vancouver for games 3-5 of that oilers/canes series… I got an awful lot of glares for wearing my canes t-shirt. I was on my way back to Raleigh the night of game 6 but didn’t make the connection in TO (incidentally, if you die in the air shortly after leaving Vancouver, they will leave your body in Winnipeg… and give everyone on your flight free drinks – that was an odd flight). But I’ll tell you, there were an awful lot of Oilers jerseys on the first flight to Raleigh the next morning.

by Andrea's evil twin on May 15, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

On the way back from SLC, UT

a day or two before Game 1 of the SCF between the Oilers and ’Canes, I saw a bunch of Oiler fans (jerseys are a dead give away along with “aboot” instead of “about”) get on the plane.

I asked the flight attendant to welcome the Oiler fans onboard the plane to the home of the next Stanley Cup Champions, the Carolina Hurricanes. She said she couldn’t remember that all and gave me the cabin microphone to tell them myself.

I did. Gawd that was fun. A great deal of hooten’ and a hollerin’ coming from the back of the plane.

This is too good

It’s not what you think. It is an opus on the ’Canes and their never give up, never surrender attitude.
