Hurricanes Newsstand — May 21

Finally. It's nearly time for Game 2. The Hurricanes will look to bounce back and earn a split in their Eastern Conference Finals series with the Penguins. But they may have to do so without Erik Cole and Tuomo Ruutu.

The good news is Cole participated in the morning skate and could be available. Ruutu is looking less likely.

I figured you guys might like this from penguins.com (12:25 update)

Here is an update from ’Canes coach Paul Maurice on the status of Erik Cole and Tuomo Ruutu. Cole skated in the morning skate while Ruutu did not.

“Erik looked like he does in most morning skates and we’ll see how he feels when he comes to the rink tonight,” Maurice said.

When a reporter inquired further on Ruutu, Maurice joked:

“He wasn’t quite as noticable in the morning skate.”

But later, Maurice confirmed that Ruutu will also be a game-time decision.

thx Hooks … looks like Cole will play, but I think we’re all doubtful on Ruutu.

And why are there some people who just don’t understand Mo’s dry whit? “He wasn’t quite as noticable in the morning skate.” That is classic Mo.

And some of their jokes

like the amazing flying 6’5", 250lbs man sideways into a triple somersault into his goalie just ain’t that funny.

Let us pray to the hockey gods for RUU to feel like a teenager.

I call upon Cthulhu to reach out

from his dreams and give strength and a few more limbs to Ruutu so he may smite the frozen and water-logged birds as they are dragged into the abyss
