LACE EM' UP!!!
Game two stats all favor the Canes folks. Sure thats about all we’ve heard over two VERY long days. Thanks to the NHL for such a great schedule. I’ll go glass half full and say with Cole and Ruutu healing up the time has served all. Lift a cold one to Ward going completely on fire tonight… to show the Pens what a real play off goalie looks like.
I think they used the phrase “pens didn’t play to their potential” maybe 4 times in that 3 minute segment to open.
Ok…I feel sooo much better now! If we beat NJ and Bos, we can beat this Pens team- they are tough and fast, but so are we.

LMAO, this game is great. I’ll join you from DC tonight. Caps fan, rooting against the Pens. And I lived in Carolina for some time, too.

they were busy passing out white tee shirts for their dumbass white out crap.
by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions
as a fellow wings fan pointed out elsewhere…why do home teams do whiteouts, when it’s the road team wearing white?
still wouldnt matter- the ice is white and so are the boards on the side. Unless the puck was tossed high….I think they do it because they are idiots, and have nothing better to do.

the funny part is my wife was watching it with me and I told her to hang on…we were about to score a goal. She was telling me that it was on the radio that the hotel the Canes are staying at were playing pranks on them.

what’s the canes radio station? think I might switch to your guys’ announcer for the second period for the heck of it
I am voting for no more goals for the rest of the game- we will just end it as is.

I am extremely pleased with the officiating tonight. The LaRose penalty was questionable, but anytime your stick is in the skates, it’s highly likely you’re going to get the call. Good no call on goaltender interference. Overall, very pleased.
Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.
Joanette is letting them play. I was exuberant when I heard he was officiating tonight.

new to Canes Country …… was just thinking to myself what they just said out loud over on VS …. “Now THAT’S a playoff beard!”
Exact same play on both Penguins scores. Stretch Cam out to the right with the faked wraparound attempt, then pass to a guy streaking in from right-to-left. Hopefully they’ll look at that in the locker room during the break, and change tactics. Maybe station somebody off to the left of the crease to flatten the would-be scorer any time the Pens have it behind the net.
I was thinking more Canes D standing around with their backs to the Pens, staring at the puck, like they usually do when they get in trouble.
I think they’ve already adjusted some. We’ve had more folks pulled in to the net the last few times the pens have gotten behind it…

I’m remembering that game against Jose Theodore in the Car-Montreal series a few years back when we struggled and struggled to score on him, then that one game we lit him up like a cheap Christmas tree, and he was never the same after.
I’m hoping Fleury is wearing a tin angel by the end of this one.
I think I’m about ready to try syncing up Chuck K’s audio with the TV muted. :P

sometimes you need a gnat to be swatted at…Chad’s one of those guys who does a great job getting past a defender, forcing him to lose focus on the other guy lurking out there. Kind of like Sean Avery without being a complete waste of a human being.
that’s why he’s good 5 on 5 … but PP is about skill, and Chad himself has said he’d be the best player in the league if no one played with sticks.

Funny how Pitkanen has over 20 minutes of ice time already, Geason only 12, and IMO having a much better game. Malkin has the most for the Pens @ 14
That is crap- teams leading after 2 are 49-3…Carolina was one of the 3 before….well when you toss in first round games like Boston crushing Montreal in 4 games..etc.etc….that is a crap ass stat.

The backhanded compliments are really starting to piss me off. When the Penguins do something, it’s them doing it because Crosby carried the team on his shoulders or some crap. When we do something, it’s a “magic bubble.” They’ve been doing this all night.
Can we get Forslund back on TV? He actually at least knows things about both teams…
No kidding!!!! He just fell right back without Cullen’s help.

I’ve always thought Malkin is a better all-around player than Crosby. Still do. Just wish he wasn’t showing that against us.

We’re supposed to be complaining about the hats for the hat trick right? You know, since we want to keep the game going.
“We just wanted to make sure we kept kind of moving and kept the game going, wanted to try to get back in it.”
funny thing, I’m not sure why Crosby was complaining about at the time….
Same goes for the Canes here as was the case for teh Pens against the caps, you just got a free time out to try and regroup….

If Ward comes out giving up goals in Game 3...
I bet Leighton will be in the game before 2 minutes gone in the 2nd Period.

Blue Line Breakdown
D spent much of the game standing watching Malkin skate anywhere he wanted. Not too sure about you folks but generally most folks have to knock on my door before they get to walk in. Way too much skating in untouched for the Pens and they ate our lunch here. Two games to none…
Can the Canes find their game before it’s too late?? Because I haven’t seen it yet. Ward can only do so much with these last 2 defensive garbage heaps…..“efforts”… in front of him. Power play…move your feet dammit!! It is a man advantage!! The Canes will not move on if they don’t skate like we all know they can. For those of you going to the airport-tell the boys that a hockey game lasts 60 minutes-and the line change errors!! How long have these guys been playing this game?? I could go on and on but there’s too much to list.
When the 'Canes stop shooting at the goal
they stop scoring
Yes, I know that’s a “thank Dr. Science” but when they aren’t sure of themselves, they pass it more trying to get that “look”

Yeah, now I know why...
I was cringing every time someone bragged we had a better goalie than Pittsburgh. Not that it’s not true. The bragging is just bad mojo.
Love, love, love the Canes!
All bets off
The goalie matchup is 2-0 same as the series. Fleury who has in the past been an inconsistent head case…is exactly the opposite. Ward has made some fundamental errors that cannot allow the Canes to survive if it continues.
Bragging and gloating bring the wrath of the hockey gods

eh thanks Bubba, but...
I’m starting to think it just might be me. I seem to be a lightening rod. I feel like everyone will know it if I’m mad at a player because I’ll go off. I haven’t seen any player do anything for me to be real mad about. Pittsburgh is a different monster than we’ve faced in the playoffs so far and their stars are playing like their stars. Malkin put on one of the best performances I may have ever seen. I’m really impressed with him. I knew he was good and I’ve watched him before but that was a pretty amazing show tonight. The ’Canes have to be at their very best to beat ’em so a lot of guys are going to have to play their best games Saturday.

Hockey fans, fans of the sport, know the ones who toss the players under the bus. There are some of us hockey fans in Steeltown that would read this and know why they are doing it.
Believe me, even some of our coughfanscough threw some of the Pens under the bus tonight.
You just ignore it and regroup.
Good luck the rest of the series.
Man, I don't hear anything bad...
And I’ll be the first to call someone out. Everybody is just being truthful. We got outplayed tonight. Cam is getting outplayed. Our D is standing around and not taking care of these rebounds. We’re not in front of their net nearly like they are ours. They out skated us at least in the last 30 minutes of the game.
Lots of bad things going on. It’s just the truth.
Love, love, love the Canes!
Doesn't mean I don't think they can do it...

I don't consider it a good "chance"
When we don’t even shoot the puck on net or when we do we hit the goalie in the chest, or the puck or one of our sticks gets lodged in skates.

Not arguing with that assessment. But what I’m hearing is “this guy sucks, that guys sucks, our goalie is mediocre, we don’t have enough firepower, we’re going to get swept, etc.”
We got outplayed for parts of the last couple of games. Happened in NJ, happened against Boston (one of the worst being at the RBC no less). Bottom line: it ain’t over. The hill just got a lot steeper, but if it was a cakewalk, winning the Cup wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
I don't read it like you do...
I think everyone knows that. I don’t think anyone thinks the team quit or thinks our goalie is mediocre. He’s had two mediocre games against unbelievable scoring threats. It is the fact however and everyone hopes he and the team can turn it around in Raleigh.
Love, love, love the Canes!

Fair enough
Maybe I’m just too much the natural devil’s advocate. When everybody else is gushing, I’d be the guy looking for flaws. When everybody’s venting, I’m the one looking for the silver lining to keep things in perspective.
i disagree
“this guy is playing like crap” is not the same as “this guy sucks”
Eric Staal most definitely does not suck. Which is why his complete lack of any production is so frustrating.
Lack of effort pisses me off.

THey (and we as fans) were over-confident going in. THey need that “backs against the wall” feeling. SOmething tells me they feel it now. (I sure do). These guys have been going at such a pace and they have faltered a little bit with so many off days.
I would say Saturday is must win (like that isn’t obvious) – but I think the season is on the line.
Don’t you just hate it for the Pittsburgh Caniac who posts here. Tomorrow will be a long day at the office.

Well, I think most overconfidence was directed in Cam’s direction. I hate “bragging” before a game is even played. Everyone felt it was a lock that Cam had that battle won already.
Love, love, love the Canes!
After Cam’s performance in the first 2 series, it was hard not to think the man (very young man) was infallible. Hmmmm. Let’s see from Barrasso and company can accomplish in the next 48 hours.

Beat me to it...
You called on Barrasso and I’m thinking the whole staff has their job cut out for them.

it;s not like he's getting much help
Malkin flat abused Gleason tonight.

Malkin gave an incredible performance. The offensive equivalent to Brodeur’s game 5 shut out. Can he keep it up?

I kept thinking that he and Crosby get paid $8.7 Mil a piece. That’s jaw-dropping. That’s like Staal and WHitney combined into one (and then do it again).

Wow...
I would take those two players. Two Staalhitney’s? Would love that!

And then have them under 25 yrs old playing 24 minutes per game! What a bargain!

Malkin's 3rd goal...
Was jaw dropping. What a display of skill. Unbelievable.

ain’t a goalie around who would have seen that coming and made that save. You got to admire that if you love hockey.

admired it, yes...
but mostly envied it for our guys. I wish one of our guys could throw something like that at the net!
Love, love, love the Canes!

Can you think of anyone else except maybe Ovechkin who has that kind of quickness and tenacity? Must be a Russian thing. Samsonov is quick, but not even close to that caliber.

pretty amazing, i have to agree...
our d has to clamp down in front of the net…
our o has to bear down in front of their net…
our g has to bow his neck and snap out of it in his net.
Love, love, love the Canes!

and in turn, Gleason abused Crosby. Glass half empty/half full thing. I’ll agree Gleason got made a fool of on Malkin’s 2nd one.
Was that Gleason?
I thought that was a manikin doing a pose in the middle of the ice.

Everyone prognosticating the series was saying Cam had that battle won. The thing is, the ‘Canes have a great coaching staff and great veterans on the team. They’ll get it together.
