LACE EM' UP!!!

Game two stats all favor the Canes folks. Sure thats about all we’ve heard over two VERY long days. Thanks to the NHL for such a great schedule. I’ll go glass half full and say with Cole and Ruutu healing up the time has served all. Lift a cold one to Ward going completely on fire tonight… to show the Pens what a real play off goalie looks like.

by 54fighting on May 21, 2009 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

I’ll drink to that.

by canescup on May 21, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I think they used the phrase “pens didn’t play to their potential” maybe 4 times in that 3 minute segment to open.

by Iggy Reilly on May 21, 2009 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

Drink…………..as they say.

by akus on May 21, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Underdogs yet again.

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

nothing wrong with being the underdog!!!!!!!!!!!! GO CANES!!!!!!!!! :)

by jenniwa30 on May 21, 2009 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m feeling it tonight. Rosie is going to bring it hard to the net on every shift, opening things up for Staal. I think Chad gets at least two assists tonight.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

they call that tailgating?????

by jenniwa30 on May 21, 2009 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

Nobody in Pittsburgh actually owns a vehicle with a tailgate. ;)

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Crosby on a nice backdoor play.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:43 PM EDT reply actions

WWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

Beautiful answer. Basically just restarted the game.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

Way to get one back quick.

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

Ok…I feel sooo much better now! If we beat NJ and Bos, we can beat this Pens team- they are tough and fast, but so are we.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

We may be hearing about that one from the Pens trolls later…

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

They have ZERO room to talk.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Which one? There are many.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

On the feed, they were claiming “knee n knee.” Looked good to me…

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

they are idiots…tell him to drown himself in one of the three rivers.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Well they cried about the ovie hit……..

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

no surprise there. All they do is whine.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Heh…guess we decided to try out the flying open-ice hit since it worked so well for them last game.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

Which line is Cole on tonight?

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:51 PM EDT reply actions

Actually, I think he said “Holy $*%& that was a close one!” ;)

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

we need to get it out of our zone- there we go.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:52 PM EDT reply actions

NICE HIT BY SEIDS AGAIN!

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

Gleason is playing great so far tonight. He’s had two takeaways from Crosby that I’ve noticed.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

you mean Mario’s roomate?

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Ya get the felling the “bomb” play has been sniffed out by us?

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 7:54 PM EDT reply actions

Wow- definitely quiet here tonight- hopefully we will score a couple of goals, people will relax, and come back.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Didn’t the last game start at 8? I’m wondering if people didn’t double-check the gametime tonight.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah – I don’t normally speak up too much, but feel I gotta step up without anyone here…

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

naa…..at the bars with all their buddies……

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

this white out thing they do up here is well….just stupid…they look like a bunch of bleached pens fans.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

JJJJJJEEEEZZZZZZZZZ!!! gonna be a long game…

by jenniwa30 on May 21, 2009 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

Blown defensive coverage out in front. He split Whitney and someone else before they knew he was there. Same kind of play as the one with Satan last game.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

JJJJUUUUIIIICCCYY!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

by jenniwa30 on May 21, 2009 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

Yet another answer… gotta get the next one.

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

what’s that, 30 seconds a response?

by ahtrap on May 21, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

Canes playing like they’re dominos pizza back in the day, 30 seconds or less or the next one’s free…

by ahtrap on May 21, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

LMAO, this game is great. I’ll join you from DC tonight. Caps fan, rooting against the Pens. And I lived in Carolina for some time, too.

Pull up a seat and grab a beer. This one’s gonna be a highlight reel.

did they not study our past performances?

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:01 PM EDT reply actions

they were busy passing out white tee shirts for their dumbass white out crap.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

waiting for the red to show up……

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

as a fellow wings fan pointed out elsewhere…why do home teams do whiteouts, when it’s the road team wearing white?

by ahtrap on May 21, 2009 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

can’t do a blackout – the puck gets lost

by boutros23 on May 21, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

still wouldnt matter- the ice is white and so are the boards on the side. Unless the puck was tossed high….I think they do it because they are idiots, and have nothing better to do.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

that’s the explanation i heard during our series w/ them re: the whiteout.

by boutros23 on May 21, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

not that i’m arguing the idiocy… far from it.

by boutros23 on May 21, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice hit by Wallin there.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:01 PM EDT reply actions

Geez…the boards are getting a lot of punishment tonight.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

YES!!!!!!! SEIDS!

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

I think the flower’s wilting…….

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

he’s so damn overrated

by boutros23 on May 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

the funny part is my wife was watching it with me and I told her to hang on…we were about to score a goal. She was telling me that it was on the radio that the hotel the Canes are staying at were playing pranks on them.

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

Defense, we don’t need no stinking defense!

by C-Leaguer on May 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

defense what’s that?

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I think canesup’s prediction of 4-3 is probably blown now. ;)

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

or is it his series prediction?

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I think he’ll get over it :)

by jenniwa30 on May 21, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

he didn’t count on it being retro night, what with no defense and wide open skating lanes

by ahtrap on May 21, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

ya mean 80’s night….

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

holy crap it’s quiet there now……

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

same as it was here 5 minutes ago :)

by ahtrap on May 21, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I can’t tell everyone how happy I am to see the Canes shooting more and passing less.

by C-Leaguer on May 21, 2009 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

They’re finishing checks as well…

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

one down 2 to go see yall after my game……….

by lrcaniac on May 21, 2009 8:21 PM EDT reply actions

I am extremely pleased with the officiating tonight. The LaRose penalty was questionable, but anytime your stick is in the skates, it’s highly likely you’re going to get the call. Good no call on goaltender interference. Overall, very pleased.

Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.

by wilmnoca on May 21, 2009 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

Pretty much how I feel about it. Orpik went down easy, but Rosie’s stick was in his skates undeniably.

by Iggy Reilly on May 21, 2009 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Gotta love that muskrat on Cole’s chin.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

Joanette is letting them play. I was exuberant when I heard he was officiating tonight.

Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.

by wilmnoca on May 21, 2009 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

…..or should I say, when I found out, at 12:30 on the afternoon live chat because Bubba and Corey were on the ball, that he was officiating.

by hip_check on May 21, 2009 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

new to Canes Country …… was just thinking to myself what they just said out loud over on VS …. “Now THAT’S a playoff beard!”

by SunnyNC on May 21, 2009 8:28 PM EDT reply actions

what up sunny? Welcome to the boards!

Satan is just a coping mechanism for monotheists.

by wilmnoca on May 21, 2009 8:28 PM EDT reply actions

Exact same play on both Penguins scores. Stretch Cam out to the right with the faked wraparound attempt, then pass to a guy streaking in from right-to-left. Hopefully they’ll look at that in the locker room during the break, and change tactics. Maybe station somebody off to the left of the crease to flatten the would-be scorer any time the Pens have it behind the net.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:29 PM EDT reply actions

I was thinking more Canes D standing around with their backs to the Pens, staring at the puck, like they usually do when they get in trouble.

by Iggy Reilly on May 21, 2009 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah…little bit of that on the Malkin score.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, that is driving me nuts.

by hip_check on May 21, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I think they’ve already adjusted some. We’ve had more folks pulled in to the net the last few times the pens have gotten behind it…

by marcmd on May 21, 2009 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m remembering that game against Jose Theodore in the Car-Montreal series a few years back when we struggled and struggled to score on him, then that one game we lit him up like a cheap Christmas tree, and he was never the same after.

I’m hoping Fleury is wearing a tin angel by the end of this one.

by RedKing75 on May 21, 2009 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

by PittsburghCaniac on May 21, 2009 9:01 PM EDT up reply actions

LaRose is my absolute favorite player now. I’ve liked him ever since he was first on the 4th line. He just brings it 110% all the time.

sometimes you need a gnat to be swatted at…Chad’s one of those guys who does a great job getting past a defender, forcing him to lose focus on the other guy lurking out there. Kind of like Sean Avery without being a complete waste of a human being.

We’ve held Crosby in check, and Malkin’s goals were either opportunistic (the first two) or plain blessed by the hockey gods (the third one). They’re getting goals from 2nd and 3rd tier players, which is what we’re doing too. Difference is that we need our top line to produce like a top line.

Blue Line Breakdown

D spent much of the game standing watching Malkin skate anywhere he wanted. Not too sure about you folks but generally most folks have to knock on my door before they get to walk in. Way too much skating in untouched for the Pens and they ate our lunch here. Two games to none…
Can the Canes find their game before it’s too late?? Because I haven’t seen it yet. Ward can only do so much with these last 2 defensive garbage heaps…..“efforts”… in front of him. Power play…move your feet dammit!! It is a man advantage!! The Canes will not move on if they don’t skate like we all know they can. For those of you going to the airport-tell the boys that a hockey game lasts 60 minutes-and the line change errors!! How long have these guys been playing this game?? I could go on and on but there’s too much to list.

eh thanks Bubba, but...

I’m starting to think it just might be me. I seem to be a lightening rod. I feel like everyone will know it if I’m mad at a player because I’ll go off. I haven’t seen any player do anything for me to be real mad about. Pittsburgh is a different monster than we’ve faced in the playoffs so far and their stars are playing like their stars. Malkin put on one of the best performances I may have ever seen. I’m really impressed with him. I knew he was good and I’ve watched him before but that was a pretty amazing show tonight. The ’Canes have to be at their very best to beat ’em so a lot of guys are going to have to play their best games Saturday.

Hockey fans, fans of the sport, know the ones who toss the players under the bus. There are some of us hockey fans in Steeltown that would read this and know why they are doing it.
Believe me, even some of our coughfanscough threw some of the Pens under the bus tonight.

You just ignore it and regroup.

And I’ll be the first to call someone out. Everybody is just being truthful. We got outplayed tonight. Cam is getting outplayed. Our D is standing around and not taking care of these rebounds. I don't consider it a good "chance"

When we don’t even shoot the puck on net or when we do we hit the goalie in the chest, or the puck or one of our sticks gets lodged in skates.

Not arguing with that assessment. But what I’m hearing is “this guy sucks, that guys sucks, our goalie is mediocre, we don’t have enough firepower, we’re going to get swept, etc.”

We got outplayed for parts of the last couple of games. Happened in NJ, happened against Boston (one of the worst being at the RBC no less). Bottom line: it ain’t over. The hill just got a lot steeper, but if it was a cakewalk, winning the Cup wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

I don't read it like you do...

I think everyone knows that. I don’t think anyone thinks the team quit or thinks our goalie is mediocre. He’s had two mediocre games against unbelievable scoring threats. It is the fact however and everyone hopes he and the team can turn it around in Raleigh.
