Ryan Bayda lives to fight another day.

Much like the Walker decision, the league reversed the automatic suspension handed out with a match penalty and fined the winger the maximum $2,500 allowed by the NHLPA.

Bob McKenzie’s really got a knack for calling these. He thought there wouldn’t be a suspension and he was right (just like the Walker-Ward situation).

at this point, after some of the stuff we’ve seen throughout the postseason, it might take a decapitation to get suspended.

Donald Brashear screwed up by delivering his hit in the first round, you know, back before Colin Campbell tutled on the discipline front. He does that now, and it’s 2500 and back on the ice….

Maybe Campbell consults with McKenzie?

That concerns me.....

even as a ’Canes fan, I thought that Bayda did deserve a suspension.

At least then it might make others think before someone does end up getting hurt.

I honestly didn’t see anything that Bayda did that was so bad…. but I’ll also admit that by the time all that went down I had mentally checked out…..

I didn’t see most of what Bayda did, because Versus was too busy showing Penguins hilights to get around to giving us what’s going on on the ice. :P

all this talk about the potential dates for the final “if there are two sweeps” is going to anger the hockey gods.
one can only hope.

by chrisj on May 22, 2009 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

That is true

My wife, who is pretty religious, always hates it when I speak of “Hockey Gods”.

But I look to see the ’Canes remembering how to play tomorrow and Tuesday and more.

She’s that insecure about her beliefs that she would find them challeneged by the mythical notion of a hockey god?

it is,
but i like to think that in reality the hockey gods exist inside the players in the form of inspiration.

by chrisj on May 22, 2009 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

where are they discussing dates for the final?

Boy – that seems extremely rude to both the Hawks and our fanbase. What a bunch of Goobers!

by Carolyn Christians on May 22, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions

thanks for the link. Unbelievable. Would the NBA or MLB ever put something out like that or is the NHL that far below the standards of other Major League Sport organizations (I think I know the answer but it was worth asking anyway…?)

What would NASCAR do? (WWND?)

by Carolyn Christians on May 22, 2009 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't read anything into that...

The NHL is just having to deal with the fact that they may have to play Game 1 and 2 of the SCF on successive nights. So they’re hoping for a earlier beginning but it doesn’t mean that they’re banking on it or anything. Does add fuel for the conspiracy though. LOL

Man, the NHL loves us!!

Still not a crook!

I don’t think a suspension was warranted, Letang got hit up high which isn’t cool but I don’t think it was particularly vicious of a hit to justify a suspension.

But the fine may sting Bayda a little….Scott Walker made $2.5 million this season, a $2,500 penalty is pocket change for him. Bayda made $475,000—a ton of money to you an me, but still league minimum.

If my math is correct (which is may not be) Bayda’s fine would be like getting a $210 bill if you earn $40,000 a year. Not fun.

Whereas to Scott Walker’s annual salary, the $2,500 fine would be like if someone charged you $40 dollars if you’re making $40,000 a year. Not bad at all.

Just something stupid on the side, but hey it’s an off-day, right?

by Hooks Orpik on May 22, 2009 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

it is an off day in every sense of the word…..

Merry Memorial Day!

Or is it Happy Memorial Day?

I know, it’s a “Who gives a rat’s ass it’s a three day weekend!” kind of day.

Eaves has got character, grit, speed, and talent. He just has trouble finishing and scoring goals. He may be able to put it together though. Here’s hoping.
