Who's giving the call for Versus??
It sure would be nice to see Forslund. Can you confirm the Vs. announcers tonight Bubba?
Same pens fans as Thursday night. I highly recommend listening to Chuck Kaiton and Forslund on the 99.9 feed on the Canes website. Hopefully they’ll be in synch.

Any word on Ruutu?
I’m stuck at work without a chance to watch the game. Constant updates on goals and our play would be much appreciated! : )
just getting in the mood - tonight, like never before, we NEED MORE COWBELL !!

any idea what sort of illness Ward’s been dealing with? They seem to mention it as a by-the-way, but can’t tell if it’s a big deal.
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Wow, this is the first I’m hearing about that…I’d like to know more as well
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Hey, where in Charleston are you watchin the game tonight?
Wanna drink somewhere if we win?
Oh yeah forgot you were a Mt. Pleasant Caniac correct? I’m unfortunately going to be stuck working out at Kiawah Island for most of the night…but would love to try and meet up for future games
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Nah, downtown.
That’s cool…always looking for more caniacs to watch the game at a bar with.
I used to live right off Smith St and Morris downtown. But yeah, keep in touch, would love to plan something for next week maybe

Oh man I’m jealous! I have tix for Game 6…gotta get there first
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Forslund and Mo have said something, but I couldn’t tell if it was something like allergies or a really major G-I issue (courtesy of Ryand Bayda)
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Hi everyone! I’m stuck at work but luckily I have a TV and a job that lets me watch the whole game! Nervous…but excited

Where do you work fellow Charleston-ite?
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Cool deal. I work mostly out at the Kiawah Sanctuary hotel, so I can relate

Don Cherry is doing the HNIC preview on the ice with girls from the Storm Squad…funny

Ruutu is 2nd line – the euro line or w/Cullen ?

love ya guy!

Bubba – RBC sounds incredible…what do you think?
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:40 PM EDT reply actions
WOuldn’t be surprised if Ruutu moves up to Eaves spot once they see how his ankle is.
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Cole and Orpik a little chippy (same old same old)
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 7:44 PM EDT reply actions
I won’t discuss that…but quite a big save on the last possession by Ward…puck flew up on his shoulder and almost over in the net but he controlled
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions
nervous – though I ’ll feel better when we get 6 more goals,
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Gleason tried to clear the puck on the PK…but he just lifted straight into Malkin’s body, Malkin collected it and then shot it mid-level in the net
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I hate to say it
the Pens can pass like nobody’s business. Gotta interrupt that crap.
Rockin' the Red in Section 412
Hmm…am i only one worried about Cam’s bobbling and giving up rebounds?
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions
Wow..great start but another penalty to try to kill. Not good. Like the anger by Cole but you can’t go high on a hit like that
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions
ALMOST! – did you see Cole’s attack?
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:04 PM EDT reply actions
Yep, really nice shift. ALMOST scored one with Cullen
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Ward’s not looking particularly strong, I’m afraid.
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions
I was hoping Barrasso had some strong voodoo chants to say over him and summon the return of the Wardo Mojo
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Maurice said he wasn’t quite healthy…. anyone know what his problem was?
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
nope – don’t know if he’s still sick o if he’s healthy
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
He’s always been bad about giving up juicy rebounds. We just can’t get anyone to the crease in time to snag one.
Looks like we’re playing 3 men on the blue line in respect for Pen’s speed on offense
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions
WTF….it sounds like we’re plaing in Mellon Arena? Please don’t tell me the RBC Center has more Pens fans than home fans….
3-1
2 goals in the last 45 secs of the 1st per.
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions
offense isn’t helping much, once again being outshot 16-8…..
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Right or wrong...
I really think he pull’s Ward. I think sometimes when the goalie is pulled the D feels they have to play better.
Love, love, love the Canes!
Two goals is the worst lead in hockey
It’s not over yet
Absolutely. This Canes team is incredible when they’re on…we just need some things to happen. Not over by a long shot but can’t allow Malkin and Crosby to be super-human
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Some matchup is obviously not working....
Perhaps the matchup of our entire defense on their offense
on a positive note, the larose jokinen and samsonov line looks GREAT
and i think we definately sign those two for next year
already talking about next year? (I understand, believe me)
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions
but Cam needs to stop more of this too.
A goalie is there for when the d breaks down.
Love, love, love the Canes!
Yeah, but I think the problem is that the D has taken to thinking “Oh, Cam will take care of it, so I can gamble here..”
maybe the d will feel they HAVE to play better for Leighton
I’m willing for them to try ANYTHING at this point. If Leighton is not the answer then someone needs to have a magic cattle prod to prod the boys into another level.
Love, love, love the Canes!
if we gmable away game 3 by trying leighton.
then its a far cry to go back to ward for 4 wins in a row
the offense needs to do more: more precisely Staal needs to do more. Staal is the only person on our team who can make crazy stuff happen, and he is gone from the entire flow of play so far.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Staal and Cam
Our two biggest players! I guess Cam’s doing a lot more than Eric at this point.
Love, love, love the Canes!
I don’t know about Leighton, I think they stay with Ward unless he is sick
just my gut feeling
GM of CanesCountry.com
Right now, the way I'm looking at it...
They’re in Cam’s head. Or on another level of hockey playing I’ve ever seen. I am in panic mode at this point. NO, it’s not over but the boys are really on the edge of a cliff here.
Love, love, love the Canes!
I just don’t understand: even the captials for at least 6 games didn’t have this much trouble with the pens….
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
some of those games, the Caps simply outscored the Pens. The Canes so far have not showed the same fire power
GM of CanesCountry.com
I hate to say it, but we just don’t match up real well against them. The only other team that prob could have was boston and their physical D.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
well, everyone was saying the caps d sucked and all that. I’m just wondering: is their D just better or does our D just plain suck?
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
not according to this series so far. at least you guys made the games interesting. this is just bs pond hockey against these guys.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Is TOm Rowe up top watching and telling them what’s going on? Maybe Francis can give his earpiece to Gleason so Rowe can tell him what’s going on….?
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:30 PM EDT reply actions
One thing I've noticed
is that a LOT of the goals the last two games are beating Cam high glove side. Maybe a switch to Leighton is in order, if Cam has a technique flaw that they’ve figured out how to exploit.
You’re right – I’ve thought the same thing
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions
we need to get more shots on goal, they seem to shoot everything wide, or they are just missing the net
GM of CanesCountry.com
Ok….feel like Samuel L. Jackson in Jurassic Park…“Hold on to your butts”
(hoping we don’t get eaten by a raptor later on)
Heck with that...
I exhaust every option before dying. I have faith in Leighton. I’ll take a change even if for one game, even if it’s just to prove to me I’m wrong.
Love, love, love the Canes!
Well…here we go back on the rollercoaster…lets have a hell of a 2nd
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:35 PM EDT reply actions
The lazy passes are killing us…nobody seems to be looking where they’re passing, and/or passing it so soft that it’s an easy turnover.
Wow…don’t know what is going on but Pens are dominating in their offensive zone. I mean they have immense time and space
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:37 PM EDT reply actions
perhaps the Canes are just too exhausted to play anymore.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Unfortunately I feel like I’m just waiting on this train to crash
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions
me to, all the player is trying to do is clear the puck, not stop the game on purpose.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
CAN WE GET ONE CLOSE SHOT??? How much did that miss?
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:42 PM EDT reply actions
Are the hockey Gods done smiling on us?? We’ve missed two or three goals by about an inch or two
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions
more like poking us with a stick and laughing about it….
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Yep…maybe I shouldn’t complain? I got to see an unreal comeback against Jersey in Game 7 and a great finish in the Boston series.

I am an FCC menace at the Verizon Center. Sorry to the folks around me, but the f-bomb comes out.
Rockin' the Red in Section 412
I used to work for Comcast SportsNet up in DC and I have tons and tons of Caps friends up there who join you on a nightly basis in taht category!

I helped Joe build our 1am show when he did the show as a fill-in. GREAT guy! Lot of fun to hang out with

I am horribly jealous that you live in Charleston btw, one of my fave cities ever
Rockin' the Red in Section 412
Yeah great city…but I’m moving to Raleigh in a few months
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, doesn’t help when’s describing goals scored by Malkin
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions
it’s funny…I remember him coming and working for us during the NHL offseason and he just wouldn’t stop talking about the Caps and their offseason moves, potential, etc. All it would take is one quick Caps question and he would go on for 30 min
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I just keep praying that this will be a reprise of the Miracle at Molson. That was eerily similar to this situation. Down two games to none, played like crap most of the 1st half of the game (I think it was 3-1 at the end of the 2nd)….
Man, crowd is ice cold right now. Hard to get into this one so far. The crowd needs something to get excited about and QUICK
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 8:55 PM EDT reply actions
I at least hope the hawks can make it to the finals. jeez, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE A REPEAT OF LAST YEARS FINALS DAMMIT!!!!
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Staal got made to look like a peewee player on that last takeaway. Dunno what the issue is with him the last couple of games.
well gotta say it: the pens are just a much better team than I thought. I wasn’t as worried about them as I needed to be.
They are playing better hockey now than we are.
Member of Canes Country and the Cat Scratch Reader
Is bylsma that good? Perhaps. I think more teams need to look to the AHL for good coaching.
Rockin' the Red in Section 412
Agreed. I remember thinking WOW we got by BOSTON?? And the Penguins got rid of scary Washington?? We will have a more evenly matched series. But geeze. This is crazy
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Ward looking better, and I can’t blame him for being pissed off. Our defense just plants itself and stops moving in the defensive zone.
After making one of the late saves in the 2nd he sort of threw his glove up in frustration like enough of this shit. He’s frustrated
by Charleston Caniac on May 23, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions
saw that – I was thinking he was frustrated with himself that he hadn’t done that 3 times before.
by Carolyn Christians on May 23, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, gotta hope for one hell of a third period Canes fans
It’s only our season that’s at stake
