Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

Busy Week Coming up for the Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes will hold their prospect camp next week from July 15th to 18th.  Mark your calendars because they usually allow fans to watch the on ice sessions each day, late in the afternoon at the Rec Zone.   All of this year's draftees except for Mattias Lidstrom are expected to attend.  Also attending will be last year's draft picks Zac Dalpe and Mike Murphy.  They will be joined by Chris Terry, Matthew Pistilli, Mike McKenzie, and local standout Kai Kantola.  Look for a couple of other late additions as the final roster and schedule will be out soon.

Cory and I will be there to watch some of the drills and gather as many interviews as we can.  Much more about this when the time comes.

Star-divide

The preseason schedule should be out any day now.  Four dates have already been determined with probably one more opponent and two more games to go.  This is what they have so far.

  • 9/18 Nashville
  • 9/21 at Atlanta
  • 9/25 Atlanta
  • 9/26 at Nashville

The full regular season schedule could be out next week as well.

Of course the ongoing negotiations with Tuomo Ruutu could come to an abrupt ending any time, with the Finn re-enlisting in Raleigh. And don't forget that management is still trying to sign that mysterious veteran defenseman.

Nice to see Mr. Kantola getting a shout-out. Does anyone know if he’s returning to Bowling Green next year?

Who is he for those of us who are unaware?

We played them a couple times last year, too, I think.

Prospect Camp

I’m going to try to head over to either the Wednesday or Thursday sessions at the Rec Zone. Bubba and Cory, if you see an old lady with a big camera stop by and say hey. I’ve been to practices at RZ before but I’ve never been to prospect camp before, how well-attended are they? Expecting a big crowd? Lots of media there?

Wasn’t bad last year … plenty of room. I’m hoping to go at least Friday and Saturday, if not more.

I didn’t attend every session last year, but the day when I went it was pretty well attended by fans, but not a whole lot of media was there.

Do they allow cameras at these events? I’d like to try to make it to at least one day, probably Saturday.

Chris Terry is not listed to be at the camp, according to the team’s release. See our article on prospect camp.
