When will the Caniac Carnival be?
Will the team open camp on the 12th and do the red-white game the same day? Will it occur on a sunday this year?
Look at what the Capitals are doing for their fans in September
Intro paragraph:
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals will hold their first Capitals Convention on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Gaylord Convention Center at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md. The all-day event will feature the entire 2009-10 Capitals team as well as Capitals alumni, who along with radio and TV personalities, coaches, and team executives will participate in a variety of breakout sessions and panel discussions that will give fans a first-time look at behind-the-scenes operations as well as an insight into the lives of NHL players. There also will be interactive activities for adults and children, a display containing many of the NHL’s most prominent trophies, a locker-room store featuring game-used authentic memorabilia and the team’s annual equipment sale.
Check out the link to read subjects of the “break-out sessions”. This would be Canes Country nirvana if it happened in Raleigh.
Way different from bounce-houses and free popcorn.
It’s not free (at $40/adult tkt) and is modeled after similar events held by the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks.

It was a Sunday morning (like 11am) last year, wasn’t it?

Wow...
That seems very abbreviated. Do you know if that’s a cost-cutting move on their part, or maybe they decided the games just weren’t all that valuable in getting their players better?

When you have essentially the same players returning not only from the last season but for the past three seasons who needs exhibition games to get better? With an 82 game schedule I think more than 4 preseason games is overkill. If you play a shorter season like the NFL then early losses can be detrimental, but early losses in the NHL can be easily overcome, e.g. refer to the ’Canes previsous season.

Agreed: the Canucks are scheduling 9 pre-season games, which is just absurd!

Then again...
The NBA plays like 8 or 9 games, I think, and the Canes have played about that many in recent years. Was just wondering because it’s a departure from the past.

Not a whole lot of roster battles taking place, IMO …

Got it.
I guess it’s just strange given they’ve usually played like twice this many.
