Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

"It's easy to see Staal being a point-per-game player for the next decade."

"[Ward] has the ability and temperament to be a star, but he needs to display it all the time."

From The Hockey News Yearbook Top 50 players feature. Staal was ranked the No. 8 player in the NHL (behind only Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Zdeno Chara, Roberto Luongo and Ryan Getzlaf), while Ward came in at No. 46, eighth among goalies. Staal ranked 19th last year, while Ward is appearing on the list for the first time.

Everyone has an opinion I guess. I can’t think of many goalies in the league I would rather have on my team than Luongo.

I can’t think of any, honestly. Maybe Mason one day … but I’d put Cam up there.

If I could get a 25 year old Luongo for the 25 year old Ward definitely. A 25 year old Ward for a 30 year old Luongo I’d stand pat.

luongo.... = nasty

the playoffs may have told a different story, but the dude is NASTY…

Give me ward every day and twice on sundays.

I second that sentiment. Not that I don’t like Luongo but I think Ward is rounding into a great goalie. When Wardo hits his stride and gets more consistant,………. look out!! We are very lucky to have Cam!

who were the other goalies?

by outlander_caniac on Aug 19, 2009 10:52 AM EDT reply actions

6. Luongo
13. Thomas
15. Brodeur
24. Lunqvist
29. Backstrom
36. Kiprusoff
44. Fleury

There is no way in hell Ward should be behind Fleury.

My first argument against socialized healthcare? Yunel Escobar's grill.

What about Backstrom? – seems like he needs to be tested without Lemaire running the bench.

Lundqvist is surprising to me too. – especially that high. But what do I know.

TT's one good year

does not make him the 2nd best goalie in the NHL.

by packpigskinfan25 on Aug 21, 2009 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions

cam ward is undervalued

as the eighth best goalie in the league. i waould rank him higher than at least six of the ones ahead of him. imo luongo, mb, and ward should be top three and if you take into account playoff performance, why shouldnt ward be first? pack is right on the money about tt. cant belive chara is that high. lidstrom is by far the best d-man in the league. the only reason he won the norris was to break up lidstroms streak of norris trophys.
