Bertuzzi to the Red Wings
Another name that came up (though I think universally rejected here at CC) as that "cheap August signing" Rutherford has teased us with, Todd Bertuzzi signed with Detroit today. 1 year, $-terms not disclosed yet (around $1.5mil I saw earlier.
So here's the latest list from NHL.com of available free agents. Ryan Bayda is on it now. There are a lot of decent (and more than decent) skaters still out there. Time will tell (and only 2 more weeks till September) if JR will have yet another amazing deal for us to delight in.
What's our budget again?
I saw where Aaron Ward returns to wearing jersey #4 on the Hurricanes roster. Seidenberg is still job-hunting.

If I remember correctly we are about 300k over budget ATM. Which is fine I’m sure. With out any major shuffling of salaries (I.E. trades) I don’t think we can really make much head way with the remaining free agents (unless we… I don’t know…. increase the budget, lol) But who knows, JR never ceases to amaze me. So…..
As far as Burt going to the Wings, man oh man oh man. They have had a very nice off season. I really wanted us to make a run at him. He still has the skill set to be a force at the power forward position. These are the type of deals that the Red Wings get the better of. That is one reason I hate them, just like the F’n Patriots. But I am happy to see he has a chance to regain his old glory. They have to be the pick out of the west (as if they were not before hand and for the past 10+ years) Should be interesting to see where everyone else goes.
suprised....
that is all I can say.
Dont want the guy on my team, but if the Wings do it, we better watch out…
Could be nasty.

You made me curious. I checked our schedule. We only face the Red Wings once his year – in Detroit on Jan 14. Unless of course both teams makes it to the SCF. That would be under the heading of “good problems to have”.
I think the Caps games are the most interesting “highest stakes” actually. And Boston will be pretty physical, one would think.
This deal seems unexpected to me too. Better there than an Eastern Conf team.
Let's go Canes!
