More Training Camp News - Groups A and B Defined
The Carolina Hurricanes recently released some updated training camp news. The club created two rosters and tweaked the schedule a bit so that both groups could practice at different times. The veterans are included in Group A while the prospects and probable River Rats are in Group B.
Defenseman Jonathan Paiement was a last minute addition and will also be a part of the B Group. The blueliner played for the River Rats as well as the Everblades last season with mixed reviews.
Interestingly enough, defensemen Jay Harrison and Brett Carson are in group A while previous front runner to make the team Bryan Rodney is with the prospects. We will have to keep close tabs on that situation. Once again, Rodney is the powerplay specialist, so it is a bit surprising to see him behind Harrison and Carson at this stage. At one point last season, Jim Rutherford said that a "position was Rodney's to lose" this year, although Carson also performed well when called upon.
Brandon Sutter and Zach Boychuk are also in Group B.
The camp schedule has more or less doubled so they can now handle multiple ice sessions. There usually will be afternoon practices following the morning ones. Check for details after the jump.

I’ve never been to these things. Will they have their numbers on their jerseys or can you get close enough to recognize them (if I can even do that – thinking of Group B)?
I could probably recognize group A from the upper bowl w/out numbers just from the way they skate.

Usually numbers on the helmets only. But you can sit up to the glass if you want to, (and can find a seat).

Any idea as to what to expect crowd-wise? This will be my first training camp, I’m going to try to make it over (camera in tow of course) on Sunday and Monday if work permits.

Okay – next question – do they have wi-fi in the RBC now? Seems like I heard they did.

yes and no. They do but last I heard they had it password protected. Maybe they won’t utilize the password feature until the season starts.

You can pick up NC State's public
I was able to pick up Nc State’s public wifi from RBC’s was protected
What a waste of time. looks like the org. has zero, none, nada intention of holding an actual tryout. rather more of a geriatric support group. rod and Yelle couldn’t earn a spot on this roster as deep and talented as it is if the kids got a fair shot. doubt Wallin would make either.
While I expect very good hockey out of this club this year this self imposed handi cap is something the Detroit Lions should look at, no other poroffesional sport team would be as stupid to put producers on the back burner and anchors on the front lines….

1 – let me congratulate you on your remarkably speedy mastery of paragraph form. I’m proud of you, big guy.

HM of 2
I appreciate the complimnet on my grammatical ineptitude.
I would however appreciate any ref. to “Squeaky” be adressed whit his name and with some reverance for Pete’s sake.
This is a rough time…

It’ll get better…give it some time. Take comfort knowing she’s in a better place.
And, speaking of dead pets, should anyone want details on the death of the Pleco in the family Canes fishtank this afternoon, say the word. Hint: it appeared to be a case of vigilante justice.

That’s pretty funny. It was also your doing that you helped me get out of that losing mentality during the playoffs. You are truly a people whisperer HM.

Hey Ivan – I’m touched I could make a difference. I’m proud of you too, kiddo.
It did help that the Canes actually fulfilled my (what-turned-out-to-be-wickedly-accurate) Mantra of Hope:
“It’s not over till the clock reads 0:00”
Starts all over again in 20 days, 22 hours and change.

You're absolutely right.
This organization does a TERRIBLE job of putting a competitive team on the field. You can tell in how little success they have.

Dear Bob,
I have been having an awful time up here in the mountains…all alone. You see i used to brag about this blog and preach the values of the NHL. With the big toe of the foot we are all part of being named “Bubba” it was an easy sell. Hell while I was selling hurricane logo’d chicken eggs and preaching the word of the NHL, I found many a convert. As of late however, i have found no converts and increasing skeptisism. My egg sales are down. Without the image of a buck toothed inbred at the healm I am afraid hockey in the south is dead. While it’s hard to pin the complete and total failure on your shoulders I hope you understand that my world revolved around you and this site. while several posters here feel I am the south bound end of a north bound ass, them still ain’t buck teeth a dangling back there. Speaking of that are you related to Mr. M. Proctor? He seems to be the only one that actually takes me seriously. I ask due to my new found understanding of inbred mountain folk..Amyway, i digress. I was wondering and hoping that there may be a way to dumb this place down abit. God knows, it’s nothing but hockey fans and they don’t have anymore teeth than us mountain folk. Having a name like Bubba brings the family atmosphere (no matter how few branches are on your family tree..) to the deal. Maybe coming up with a simple mascot or alter ego would suffice. ‘Course since only a few can actually write and even fewer have computers, maybe it’s a mute point. Just think about it and in your infinite wisdom I am sure you will come up with the right choices..
Oh and forget the pony for Christmas, I was kinda hoping for some penicillin, you see I got this burning sensation when I…well, I will tell you later. My sister/cousin just showed up. We got a date!!
A
you truly are backwoods folk
its moot point not mute point ;)
Andy, I don’t even know how to respond to that. I think you need another cruise. :-)
GM of CanesCountry.com
Cruise hell, i need to get the moot out of town. just got home from the date and she’s knocked up and pointing the finger at me. I can’t believe kissing on the first date did it.
I’ll name after you dude. Like Billy bob, or maybe Joe bob. Maybe Fred…
A
P.S. Amen brother!! A cruise, sex, hell a couple good beers and a hot shower might do the trick. This hockeyless existence is killing me, I’ve been reduced to lengthy prose just to chuck a cheap shot at MP..

great article on LaRose…. http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=498253&cmpid=rss-droschak
“That meant spending his second straight summer with none other than workout fanatic and captain Rod Brind’Amour.
"As long as I can ride his coattails I am going to do it from here on out because Roddy is just a great leader," LaRose said. "He pushes me and always makes sure I’m on the top of my game and he keeps confidence under me. He’s the right guy to be getting information from.”
just reminds my of why Brindamour means so much more than stats. Also why he can play on my 3rd or 4th till he decideds otherwise. People knock on a captain playing on the 4th line. Brindamour doenst care and neither do I.
GO CANES!
I loved this part-
And while LaRose flashes his trademark saucer eyes when he’s trying to make a point about his love of hockey, he remained laser focused on his ultimate goal during contract talks, not swayed by what some in the game may have perceived as greener pastures.
And how cool is this photo:

Please.
Get rid of Brind’Amour. He’s the worst player who has ever existed. Just ask Paladin.

Soooo....
What happens to players that were at the Traverse City tourney, but left off the training roster? Players like Elgin Reid who were on a try-out basis. Will he move on to the Rats to try and earn a spot?
Is it surprising that Matt Kennedy (5th rd pick) was invited to Raleigh, but Paradis was not? Kennedy is 2 years older (all of 20), so is he headed to Albany while Paradis returns to Quebec for the season? Has Kennedy signed a pro contract with us?

No, Kennedy has one more year of eligibility left. (I may have been incorrect about this earlier)
They are holding their breath in Guelph wondering what he will do.
http://news.guelphmercury.com/Sports/article/532339
He must have been very impressive at the tournament.
GM of CanesCountry.com
Golly. That’s quite a write-up for a 5th rounder (who IIRC was undrafted last year?). Glad you dug that up. I’ll be sure to look for the #45 on the helmet Monday.

Some early training camp photos-

I think that’s Boychuk on the far left, with Sutter second from the right and Peters at the very right.

The Juice is back in town.

Off topic..
Heatley is a Shark. There is a little bit of irony and poetic justice in that. Be interesting to see if SJ has any luck this year or if they do they ol’ porcelin swirl.

I was glad he didn't pull a Bayda.
He’s a good player to have in the system, and for a two-way!
