Rod Brind'Amour Dominated Saturday's Strength and Conditioning Tests
According to the Albany River Rats website Rod Brind'Amour had a dominating performance during the Hurricanes strength and conditioning tests Saturday morning. The Carolina captain finished over a minute ahead of his closest competition, (Tim Conboy), at the 5 mile bike ride. He completed more chin ups than anyone else by far, (19), and also finished first at the one mile bike ride.
So much for being over the hill at age 39.
Andrew Alberts and Zach Boychuk also had impressive showings.
More from the River Rats-

It truly is remarkable that Brind'Amour can out-work kids half his age. Looks like he is pushing himself hard for a huge comeback year.
I will be at training camp Sunday and will have a report Sunday evening or early Monday morning. I will also be sending some Tweets if anything seems "Tweetable". If you have not signed up for Canes Country twitter yet, we are at: http://twitter.com/CanesCountry.

Crazy thing is that he looks in better shape now than he did in that photo…. sick, isn’t it?

Luckily, we can simply point to Rod’s numbers from the fitness testing if those narrow-minded broken-record “age critics” show up and comment…

link correction
It looks like the link to the River Rats story takes you to Friday’s write up on prospect Matt Kennedy in his junior team’s home (Guelph) newspaper (which is a good read in its own right).
Here’s the original source posted on the Rats site.

Cool article on old geezers at nhl.com

An interesting observation would be to Howe. Rod’s about that driven, but has never been as gifted as Howe or Gretz. Be a good poll to see what the expectations for Rod are. I’d bet 40 points at best, being a close 50/50 on goals and assists. I expect 3rd line with bumps to second if he stays healthy. If he stays healthy I can only wonder if he doesn’t get to eat minutes, too. I just hope his game is back to something close to the Cup year at least.
If he is even in contention for the Selke I will drive down to the RBC and supply beer, dogs and burgers for everybody here on the blog next spring. The crow will be mine.

I’m betting the points total is close to 60 with about 20-22 goals.

He's certainly not going to do worse than he did last year, when he struggled with injury for months.
Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

Not to put Rod down, but his 5 mile bike test was actually 10:44, he still crushed the competition.
Also, Ray Whitney had about 20% more ankle strength than anybody else on the team.
Good to hear Whitney’s holding up. Where did you find the numbers? The River rats post seemed like it was rushed ( a few to many typos in the text) and I wondered if there might have been some errors.

I was there bright and early saturday morning at 8 AM :D
I had an internship at the athletic performance center (where they held them) over the summer, and my boss invited me back to help out with the event. :)
I was at a station measuring Internal shoulder rotation and ankle strength.
I’d like to say Whitney’s high score was accurate, but he kind of cheated on the test…He was one of the first people to come by and he threw his whole leg into the test instead of just using his ankle.

A bit off topic
Bob, any idea why Jokinen was wearing the Yellow jersey at practice today?
From Chip Alexander at Canes Now today:
Jussi Jokinen was in a yellow jersey — with a finger injury that will limit his stick-handling for about a week — and skating alongside some of the lines.
