Dennis Seidenberg Back In The Southeast With Panthers

Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg has finally found a home — in South Florida. The Florida Panthers have signed the free agent defenseman to a one-year, $2.25 million deal.

Seidenberg had a breakout season with the Hurricanes last season, setting career highs in goals (five), assists (25) and points (30). He also led Carolina in blocked shots (160) and logged more than 22 minutes of ice time a night. The Hurricanes were unwilling to meet Seidenberg's financial demands this offseason, letting him test the market and instead adding Aaron Ward and Andrew Alberts to round out their defense corps.

Seidenberg was unable to land a lucrative long-term deal, but now at the dawn of training camp has found a home back in the Southeast.

The funny part is every picture I hunted for of the guy showed him either sprawled on the ice or getting pummelled into the boards. Yikes.

He does have funny facial expressions. Good luck with him, he’s a good player.

I wish him well – he had a solid season for the ’Canes . Too bad he received such
poor counsel from his agent. He could have easily returned here with more realistic
salary demands.

So are you saying the $2.25 million he got was unrealistic?

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

He could have probably got more years.

I was hoping he would end up somewhere outside of the division so that I could actually cheer for him and his team.

I wonder about BABCHUK

I wonder if the the sound of Anton being traded will be as loud as one of his Babchukian shots dinging off the skull of a goalie or the post. I think not…at least he left us with the adjective babchukian.

Is Dangerfield-ism contagious?

On my Yahoo homepage, I have a block for ESPN hockey news – kind of an old-fashioned RSS.

Here are tonight’s NHL headlines:

Boston Bruins’ David Krejci says he probably won’t be ready for opener – 7 hours ago
Minnesota Wild invite veteran F Petr Sykora to training camp – 8 hours
Carolina Panthers sign Dennis Seidenberg to one-year contract – 4 hours ago
Washington Capitals’ Tomas Fleischmann to miss start of season with blood clot in leg – 1 day ago Buffalo Sabres sign forward Drew Stafford to two-year deal – 22 hours ago

I remember earlier this summer they had a headline up for 2 days about Heatley and the Washington Senators…. sigh.

Let's go Canes!

They have done that before, too. It really makes you wonder.
