Preseason Game No. 3 - Thrashers at Canes, Live Game Thread
The Atlanta Thrashers are in town to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in another practice game for both teams. The Canes are still looking for their first win of the exhibition season and will want some revenge for the 4-2 loss handed to them in Atlanta on Monday night.
The Thrashers will be playing several "bubble" players tonight. You will not see Ilya Kovalchuk, Bryan Little, Nik Antropov, and several other starters. Try-out Manny Legace will be playing goal.
The Canes on the other hand, will probably be starting their opening night lineup. (except for still recuperating Joni Pitkanen).
These are the expected lines for Carolina:
- Staal-Cole-Whitney
- Cullen-Jokinen-Ruutu
- Brind'Amour-LaRose-Samsonov
- Yelle-Kostopoulos-Walker
- Gleason-Corvo
- Ward-Harrison
- Wallin-Alberts
Cam Ward will be in net.
The home team should not take the visitors too lightly though, even if the big guns stayed home for Atlanta. These bubble players are fighting for a spot in the NHL. They won't go down without a fight.
Game time is at 7 and I am not aware of any online streaming. The live game thread is open for business once again and Cory and I will be at the game providing "color" commentary throughout.

I dont understand the talk about Sutter possibly getting a roster spot unless it is being used to motivate the vets on the team. There isnt a spot available, you cant tell me JR wasnt aware of his progress prior to the prospects tourney or training camp. If JR felt Sutter had a good shot at making the team then Yelle would never have been signed and theres no way they will have Sutter sitting in the press box.
It’s just a motivator. The team will wait for somebody to fail, get a boo boo or the onset of Alzheimers makes them forget to show up one night. It’s better than keeping the kid up as a healthy scratch. Though I think Sutter showed he is more than ready to play at this level.
A
Its great that he’s ready to play in the big leagues but even better that even though he is, he cant crack the lineup. I never remember that happening, most times we are forced to hope a guy with AHL level talent can somehow maintain at the NHL level. A great sign for the current team as well as the future.
the onset of Alzheimers makes them forget to show up one night.
Nice!

How?
His failure of a performance last year?

A forward could absolutely be moved if he's one of the best 9-12.
Unfortunately, he hasn’t definitively shown that.

Sutter
Sutter is between a rock and a hard place. He needs to play a lot to further his development and there is not a spot for him in the top 9. The Canes could keep him, but he would not get much playing time. It’s a shame, but it seems like Albany is his destination unless someone gets hurt.
GM of CanesCountry.com
How did he get the lines up so early? This isn’t a blog for dog food — it’s one of the best blogs for ’Canes hockey. When you cover the sport you tend to get inside information. Privileges man, privileges.

Hey Andy, I can’t reveal my sources. Isn’t that the standard line?
I’m trying to learn!

Oh yea, that and “No comment” seem to get one far. What ya think about tonight? They come out guns blazing or more of a mixing it up and see what’s up type game?

I would guess they intend to come out guns blazing, and if they don’t manage it, I think it’s a bad sign

Anyone going to the game tonight? I have a huge favor to ask – find Mike Manascalco and make him tell you who will be on canes corner on wednesday…

I actually don’t think he’s on the top of the speed dial. It would depend on who goes down. Like if Cam get’s hurt he’s coming right away…just kidding. I think if one of the top line guys goes down it will be someone else with more size. Rosie or someone a little farther down the food chain and I think he may be the guy. Or of if a PK guy goes down, I better Sutter get’s the call.
A
No kidding. They need to start gettin fired up for next Friday.
Judging by the lineup, and the fact that they play back to back games this weekend, tonight is the night we need to see a preseason win. Not just a win, but a dominating performance.
In the end though, it still counts for 0 points no matter what.
Radio coverage?
On my way to Greenville in about an hour, does Chuck do pre-season?
Still not a crook!
I have two fresh kegs of homebrew that I am tapping tonight. Gonna last through the first week of the reg season.
Habanero Pale Ale and an Imperial India Pale Ale.
So tasty.
GO CANES!
I feel like Habanero pale ale would be a recipe for disaster
two things that can cause… er, how shall I say this politely… intense intestinal discomfort… combined in a form that is usually consumed in large quantities = bad idea in my books

That’s the part I was trying to put politely…

I used half of one habanero for 5 gallons, it is hardly even noticeable. you get a slight pepper aroma, ever so slight spice, and your face flushes.
I think its the best pale ale i ever brewed, and I will be bring a keg of it to a canes tailgate sometime this winter.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t give it a try… it just sounds dangerous
give us all a heads up when you bring a keg to the game and I could be convinced to try it…

Cam Ward should be nick named “qualude”. Even after a period (not real busy, granted) he’s still so laid back you need to check for a pulse. I think that kids got a long and great career ahead of him. Barrasso seems to be earning his check.

AWard missing from the bench for about 10 minutes now, it seems. And Wallin just blocked a shot off the inside of his leg and gingerly heads to the locker room.
So maybe we should’nt play any preseason games if our guys are made of glass or just old.

since turning 80 years old brindy’s not a very good defensive forward anymore…to say he’s lost a step might be a bit of an understatement…
the corvo gleason pairing is starting to scare me…they were picked apart heavily in the pens series and so far in the preseason they’re not exactly shutting others down.
this shows the +/- for the whole gang. Brindy was -1 tonight, with a lot of others. He was the only one +1 vs ATL on Monday.
