Bruins at Hurricanes: Game Day Preview

Carolina Hurricanes' Eric Staal (12) and Jussi Jokinen (36) are finding chemistry in recent games.

Carolina Hurricanes' Eric Staal (12) and Jussi Jokinen (36) are finding chemistry in recent games.

The Carolina Hurricanes, (15-28-7) and the Boston Bruins, (23-19-8) get right back to action tonight for a game starting at 5 p.m. at the RBC.  Both teams played Saturday afternoon and both teams suffered setbacks.  The Canes lost a close 4-2 decision in Philadelphia while the Bruins were defeated by Ottawa, 2-1 at home.

Hurricanes backup goalie Manny Legace is still fighting a bout of pink eye, so the team recalled Albany goalie Justin Peters to back up Cam Ward for this contest.   The oft used Carolina goalie started 17 games in a row before taking a partial period off yesterday.

There is no official word on who will start for Boston, but Tim Thomas played yesterday so Tuukka Rask will most likely get the call.  (Update) Tim Thomas will start again.

Star-divide

Look for the same lines that were used in Philadelphia.

  • Staal, Jokinen, Whitney
  • Cullen, Kostopoulos, Samsonov
  • Sutter, Tlusty, LaRose
  • Brind'Amour, Yelle, Dwyer

Will Jussi Jokinen and Eric Staal continue their torrid scoring pace?

The game will be televised locally by FS Carolinas.  I will be checking in live from the arena with the open game thread here starting at 4:30.

Don't forget to drop off spare clothes  for the relief effort in Haiti at the Backyard Bistro on the way to the rink.

There we go! Rining and I needed news!

A

Staals going to the Olymipics, BFD!
When will Staal learn that a wrap ain't really a shot?
When does last place become unacceptable?
Trade Staal for a real Super Star or a bag of pucks, trade him now.

Will today become another excuse to trade people? I want to see a win, but unlikely against a Bruins team that has handed us our heads on a platter the past few times out and a team that had a close loss yesterday.

Oh well, go Canes I guess.

This is definitely not the same team you saw in October. B’s are struggling right now.

Then we are the best remedy for that.

Here’s one.

Rule change: If the goalie is pulled a goal is only .5 point

Or go back to real hoickey and play until somebody wins.

So what would it take to get Peters in? 5 goals, maybe 6? 5 in one period or a total of 6 is what I would think..

After yesterday’s outing he may need a day (or seven) to recover. Although you should neverunderestimate his willingness to take one for the team especially if either team is down a goal.

I heard Mo traded him for Tripp Tracy. Apparently both can be invisible on the ice.

No, I was not traded. They just outright released me. I told them they should do the same thing with AWard, but I got no response from that comment.

What happened to Manny Legace? Did someone fart on his pillow?

Nah, he’s kinda short. He ran into a doorhandle.
You stay classy as usual Chowdah.

City of Medicine?

Boston in town for a visit with Dr. Cane, who is rumored to be the cure for what ails you.

And, what’s ailing the Bruins is that they’re on a losing skid, 2-7-1 in the last 10, four in a row, including Saturday afternoon against Ottawa (2-1).

Are we indeed the cure for their losing streak? Or, is it the case that the rumors are no longer true, and the misery continues for them with a resurgent team coming off the ropes behind an appreciative home crowd advantage?

Looking forward to hopefully being part of the latter. later this afternoon.

Man, oh, man. Was it ever the latter. Much fun.

Cam Ward...

…tied the franchise record for goalie wins, held by Arturs Irbe (130 wins), with the Atlanta win.

Next one’s for the record. Just sayin’

Personally witnessed Irbe setting that record, and now have personally witnessed it being broken by Ward.

Glad we had a chance to show him some love in person.

Wow! Surprised, but might consider this to be good news.

Finnish goalies are tough. Thomas, we might can break.
