It is obvious that some teams have lost confidence in very talented players and likewise some highly skilled players are convinced they are being under-utilized. Jim Rutherford and his staff seem to have a knack for finding players who prosper in the Hurricanes system -- which is based more on positive reinforcement than Marine Boot Camp threats of bodily harm.
Here are some teams and players that seem ready to make a change. I think the Hurricanes could fill some key pieces to the teams from working out a deal for one of these players:
1. LA Kings: Alexander Frolov;
2. Phoenix Coyotes: Peter Mueller;
3. St. Louis Blues: Patrik Berglund;
4. Florida Panthers: Nathan Horton; Michael Frolik; Kamil Kreps; Shawn Matthias; Rostislav Olesz;
5. Dallas Stars: Fabian Brunnstrom;
6. Edmonton Oilers: Jean-Francois Jacques
7. Boston Bruins: Mikko Lehtonen
The Hurricanes could add another power forward at the trade deadline and vastly improve the team for next season. It is an unknown when and if Erik Cole will be able to return. Some of the players above could be true game changers for the Hurricanes.
