SUI - 2 CAN ??? 2 after regulation,,,, OT and 3 on 4th SO... WOW?!

I would call it almost a sensation - SUI team managed to make 2:2 in the 2nd and practically dominated the 3rd period! Crosby and Co were looking like giants who forgot how to play. Hiller did incredible job stopping  44 of 46 (if I am not mistaken, but nhl.com says 45 of 47) . Despite plenty of PIM taken by SUI they somehow did  allow just a single PPG. They even made 23 SOG - sort of average result for normal NHL game! Frankly they were looking like boys playing against men, but all the sudden these men decided that they are too old to play... so boys went ahead.

It was a few scary moments too - Rick Nash almost caught Hiller by blade driving the net the similar way like he did to Cam Ward this season. Fortunately no problem for Hiller this time, but it was scary.

After 2:2 in regulation, OT did not give the winner too.

Finaly Crosby (on 4thSO) put puck behind Hiller... but it was looking as luck... If something went wrong with team Canada?

What is also interesting - NHL.com shows on the top it was 2nd OT - in fact it was just 1 OT andthen SO same as for NHL regular season game, with exception that after 3 different players the same player can make another try - so Crosby was able to score it only from 2nd attempt...

I was pulling for the swiss…as they for most of the game was not impressed with Team Canada and all " of it’s stars" sitting on the bench.A great game with many shots for plays of the week segments. Go Canes !!

Really fun game to watch. Hiller was fantastic and the Swiss really played a smart, hard style of hockey. The Canadians got ruffled when they realized the Swiss weren’t afraid to play physical and take the game to them. I hope the Americans were watching very closely…this team can be beaten!

On Sunday, it’s on!

Still not a crook!

no preference from me to either side, But I was expecting much more from Canada,

However – looks like Slovaks giving Russians tough time – Rus 1 : Slo -0 after 2nd and looks to be anybody’s game so far

All above is my personal opinion.
Thanks,

SENSATION HAPPENED

All BIG Russians cannot win Slovaks! G8 twice missed in SO…. My prognosis – Russians will not win anything

All above is my personal opinion.

Still…the swiss handed team canada a plateful of grief and it took a shoot out for Canada to win. and as far as the russian team goes Teanm USA needs to stay focused and not get ahead of themselves.

Rick Nash

This guy must have no respect for goalies. I don’t care if they “looked unintentional”, far too often Nash come in skating as hard as he can in a straight line for the goalie and “slips”.

Last night he nailed Hiller right in the head, breaking his mask. It did look like Nash slipped, however he wouldn’t have run head on into the goalie if he wasn’t trying to skate head on into the goalie in the first place.

It just seems to me like he really doesn’t mind driving recklessly right through the crease, even if it presents obvious dangers for goalies. I don’t like it and I can’t think of anyone else that injures as many goalies as he does.

Like when he cut Cams leg, he was just powering right through the crease, no regard for Cam’s safety at all. When other players are inside the crease, I notice they are trying to angle their skates away from goalies to protect their safety. It seems “coincidentally” that Nash always ends up going in skates first.

What a game

I’m still reeling from that one last night. Amazing. I hope the IOC was watching because at this level the game is so much better on the NHL sheet of ice. Had last nights game been played on Olympic/International ice there would have been no hitting, not checking, no intensity.

Also, how is Lemm not in the NHL? The man was a beast in 2006 and is a beast again. Not only was he a beast, but he showed he can do it on the NHL ice against the top competition. Someone needs to get this guy in an NHL sweater.

Greensboro was a black hole.

NHL vs IOC ice

i would tend to agree. And when you look at teams like the Slovaks, the danes, swedes and the finns…trust me, the manhandling the canes took at Calgary looked like chiulds play from what i have seen thus far, from the european teams..be safe..

shootouts are considered OT in IIHF rules

So the win was an OT win, not a SO win, and according to the IIHF Crosby’s goal counts statistically for tournament stats and is a game-winning goal.

But the goalies didn’t get saves. That’s such an odd rule.

Greensboro was a black hole.
