Zach Boychuk Recalled From Albany

The Carolina Hurricanes just announced the recall of forward Zack Boychuk from the Albany River Rats.  Boychuk will take Jiri Tlusty's spot, who was reassigned to Albany yesterday.

Chip Alexander was reporting from the morning skate in Buffalo that Tuomo Ruutu was skating with Brandon Sutter and Patrick Dwyer, but apparently, Ruutu is still not ready to go.

The team's 1st round draft pick in 2008 has 12 goals and 15 assists for the Rats so far this season.  He has a single assist in nine previous games for the Hurricanes.

I'll have the game preview up early this afternoon.

I deleted the Fan post I put up since this got posted. Anyone want to speculate on a Whitney trade???

Or is it something much more mundane like Cole or Ruutu or Rosey (IR) not being able to go tonight?

I’d be willing to bet JR got calls from Washington, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Philly, Atlanta, Ottawa, Boston, and Montreal today. Pretty much every team in the East freaking out that the NJ Devils just became the favorite Cup contender with the addition of Kovalchuk.

I’d guess Boston, Montreal, and Atlanta are most desperate to make deals and that JR is telling them the sooner the better. My best guess would be Whitney to Boston or Montreal for their first rounder.

there’s ignoring reason and truth and then there is ass-hated shenaniganizing. The line, though thin, does exist.

Is shenaniganizing a word? Becuase if it is, I am using it on a fairly regular basis from now on.

And, just out of curiosity, where does Eklund fall on that spectrum?

They won’t trade away TO’s first rounder. However their first rounder is still likely a 5-20th overall pick and they are probably more likely to deal it because they have TO’s.

by JussiJuice on Feb 5, 2010 12:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I could have sworn their GM said they wouldn’t even entertain offers for the first round pick. Now obviously that could change, but all reports I’ve read say they aren’t giving that up.

Asked about Ruutu, he says he feels good and is getting stronger. Hopes he’s back in next week for the home stretch. Beginning to do some battling drills and once he passes that, he’ll be back in the lineup.

But…my question is who will now perform the absolute final test of delivering the body check against the glass that Nic Wallin traditionally performs to see if an injured player is gameworthy?

Just found From Eklund

Those that are squeemish should not read……On the Sharks…

The Sharks are shopping for playoff experience which makes sense. They need to bring some players who have won a Cup into the locker room…that’s why Kubina was an option. By the way, since I have it on good authority that a package of Whitney and Gleason almost went to LA wouldn’t this be the perfect fit for San Jose? I imagine Clowe would be among those who would go back. END

Initial leak could have been from the SJ side…or even Wallin’s agent.

Could be another GM is calling to answer Nic’s desire to only sign a one-year extension instead of a two-year extension, as demanded by SJ.

by Elsker on Feb 5, 2010 2:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

My guess is Wallin will ultimately be traded

I think Wallin and his agent are playing hardball and that whether it is San Jose or some other team, ultimately Wallin will be a big raise for one year and will waive his NTC; and that the Hurricanes will get a 2nd round draft choice for him. Nothing is ever as it appears in the NHL as it relates to trade negotiations.
