Ruutu Returns, Panthers at Hurricanes: Game Day Preview

(Sorry for the delay in posting this, it's been a crazy one today.)

The Florida Panthers, (24-25-9) are in town tonight to meet the Carolina Hurricanes, (21-30-7) for a match at the RBC.  The Canes have won two games in a row and six of their last eight.  The team just finished a four game road trip and will play their next three contests at home before shutting down for the Olympic break.

The Panthers have lost three in a row and four of their last five.

Tuomo Ruutu will make a return tonight after missing 15 games because of an upper body injury.  He will start out on the Brandon Sutter line.  (Zach Boychuk was reassigned to Albany a couple of days ago.)

  • Staal, Whitney, Jokinen
  • Cullen, Samsonov, Kostopoulos
  • Sutter, Ruutu, Dwyer
  • Yelle, Brind'Amour, Goertzen

Star-divide

Now that Niclas Wallin is officially a San Jose Shark, Brett Carson's future with the team looks more stable than ever.  The starting six on the blueline will be:  Corvo, Pitkanen, Gleason, Ward, Alberts, and Carson.

Manny Legace will get the start in goal.  Legace is 2-1-3 lifetime against the Panthers.

Jussi Jokinen has a six game scoring streak in play.

Don't forget that the first 5,000 10,000 fans get free Tuomo Ruutu bobbleheads.

FSN will not be broadcasting this game.  I will be reporting from the rink and will have the "Open Game Thread" here starting up at 6:30.

For more information about the Panthers, check out the Litter Box Cats.

And there had better be more than 5,000 bobbleheads, Bob, or there will be rioting and mayhem!

Hahahaha.

On my way.

And I was debating whether I’d wear my Team Finland jersey (which I just got autographed yesterday – w00t!), but today’s events made that decision a no-brainer.

Can we assume Peters starts Thursday? I’ll be there, so I hope so!

Still not a crook!

Chip said he’d start Thursday or Saturday, but didn’t say which day.

Greensboro was a black hole.

Another home game, another non-televised one...

It’s no wonder our attendance is down when people can’t even watch them from the comfort of home if they can’t afford to go to the actual games. I wish they would televise more games. It seems like the games shown this year vs. last year are few and far between. :(

If somebody has an online feed at 7pm, please post it. :)

If Ray Whitney does not retire a Carolina Hurricane, I'll go egg Jim Rutherfords car and TP his house.

Because of the triangles love for college hoops. College hoops being shown before a professional sport in my opinion is a JOKE! Besides the ACC teams pretty much suck…

caniacgirl has the same thing. sorry.

Mike M did a good job helping him correct some of the awkward impressions he left at the presser. He said the right words about the fans being so awesome compared to other fickle markets. He talked about how the fans deserve the ASG and will do a great job supporting it. It was a successful remedial effort and much more “on topic” to what the Public Relations/Fan relations folks would want. I’m not being cynical. Actually, I think he just felt like it was obvious and didn’t need repeating how great is the Caniac Nation and this afternoon thought he was trying to sell a cynical board of directors or bank committee.

Good thing they have Canes Country to get instant fan reaction, eh? (Just like those presidential debate instant polls.)

Hopefully they’ll link it on the Canes site or WRAL.com soon and I’ll include it in my next C&C.

Who schedules these bobble head nights? How is it possible the both Ruutu and Rosie both happened to return from injuries the same night as their bobble head giveaway??

Still not a crook!
