I was truly appalled at the bevy of lasciviousness displayed by so many of the CC faithful on the last open game thread. Let me say for the record that (1) I will not participate (as much) in any lewd shenaniganism this evening and (2) I’m jealous of those of you who had really great double entendre lines the other night – such a display of inventiveness and imagination! Wish I had thought of some of those lines. That being said,

I lived up there and went to alot of the games during their run for the cup in I believe 99 when they lost to the stars in the finals. The most fun was the ECF between Buffalo and Toronto. Lots of fights at those games

I know it’s never the same. But there’s a whole heck of a lot in between not the same and no good.
Will he be the same? No he won’t. Does that mean we need to all freak out? No it doesn’t. We do need a good backup, but we (and by we I mean the coaching staff) also need to adjust our perceptions of the purpose of said back up.

Anyone, what are the rules regarding pulling a goalie? I notice that when a team gets an empty net goal, the goalie always comes back out. does he have to?

he doesn’t have to they just do because at that point it usually doesn’t matter

No. But at that point the face off is at center ice and they need him back in there until his team gains hold of the puck.

You can pull the goalie at any time. They could have the extra skater for the faceoff, but the other team’ll score. Technically you could play the entire game with six skaters!

they try it once to see if it will work if it doesn’t you go back playing as normal

Curious. I’ve seen teams get 1 behind w/1-2 minutes left, after pulling the goalie then put him back in instead of trying to tie it up with 6. Didn’t understand that. if you’re gonna lose, why not try it at that poing?

The crowd looked large — maybe 17,000+. It was awesome that the Finns dominated again. Ruutu looked fast on the ice tonight; and I am guessing his time away let injuries other than his shoulder heal as well.
