TSN says Jamie McBain is 8th best rookie in NHL
TSN listed its top 100 Rookies this year and for the Canes they listed:
#84 - Bryan Rodney
#40 - Brett Carson
#32 - Zach Boychuk
#8 - Jamie McBain
McBain is in good company: #7 is the Thrasher's skill forward (and Matt Cooke destroyer) Evander Kane and #9 is Red Wing goalie Jimmie Howard

Interesting to note that he had a higher rating than everyone but Rask. Given a whole year I would guess he would be just as acclaimed as Myers and certainly in the Calder running.
In any case McBain will still be a rookie next year so he can prove us all right!
Meant to add – stick tap to Cory – who’s out of town on business, but still found a moment to make sure those of us in Raleigh didn’t miss this gem.

Is that why you’ve taken over CC?
Whatever the reason – good job!
"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."
Shoot! :HM looks around the Canes Country front office for colleagues: you’re right! There’s no one else in here! What? Is the Canes’ season over or something? (They’re both working behind the scenes on off-season features to come – they put me front and center and said to distract y’all so they could get their work done.)

They also mention the Justin Peters wasn’t named because they had a 10 game minimum. He only had 9. Next year!

Only Carlson has Calder eligibility for next season, so that’s nice. That’s some pretty nice company in the top ten.
I just wish JR would have given up Ray Whitney for Lent.
I’ll say.
I just checked out the AHL leading scorers for the playoffs. McBain’s 4 G in 4 games is tied for 2nd. He is the highest ranking D-man.
He also shares the lead in plus/minus at +5, more impressive that these have been four close games. Casey Borer is also +5.

I’m pretty sure these are the last games this guy is ever going to play in the AHL.
I just wish JR would have given up Ray Whitney for Lent.
That way next year we can rename it…
The McCalder.
"...they will not force us...they will stop degrading us...they will not control us...we will be victorious..."
I’ve heard that Casey Borer is playing really good hockey right now – Albany friends have said they think the call-up to the Canes was a big boost for him. Does anyone have any additional information about his play in the first round of play-offs. I for one am very glad he is getting his game back.

" Chadness" is contagious ! Go Canes !!
I found this video (found it after the game last night) done after the morning skate prior to game 4, interviewing Jeff Daniels, Dodge, Osala, Borer and Rodney.
About 10 minutes – uploaded by one of the local newspaper reporters. W

McBadass’s short time with the Canes is is a great harbinger for the future of the blue line. Maurice said he was impressed with his ability to get his shot on net, and that seems to have carried over into the AHL playoffs. Let’s hope he takes the offseason seriously because he can definitely make the big league club better.
McBain, Osala, Dalpe, Boychuk, Bowman, Carson, Tlusty,Terry, Samson, and the Off Season
If I were in charge, I would strongly suggest to McBain, Osala, Dalpe, Boychuk, Bowman, Carson, Tlusty, Terry, and Samson that they move to Raleigh and work out under the guidance of specialists in speed skating and strength training. The best comment I’ve heard that summarized the situation is “almost no young players realize what their bodies will have to look like in order to be successful in the NHL; and once that sinks home and they make the commitment to do what it takes to get their bodies that strong and fit, they will have successful NHL careers.”
All of these young players can make an impact on the team; but how long it takes for them to do so is largely under their control. Once they gain their man strength and improve their footwork and acceleration, there is nothing to hold back their development. If they were to practice as a group, they will all get there quicker. As hard as they have worked, spending four to six months more in hockey boot camp in Raleigh is a small sacrifice to make.
Yes - but not sure why you think that can happen in Raleigh.
I don’t think there are any hockey/skating trainers in Raleigh that will be able to help them like are very available in Canada. Can’t even imagine where they would practice? RecZone? Wake Forest? Don’t see it. Who is qualified at this level in Raleigh? It’s hard to find power skating lessons for my kids here.
I agree the young Canes would benefit from working on strength and skating, but the real pros with training buddies who will challenge them in this kind of training are in Canada.

Howard
I can’t put him in that group. He may still technically be a rookie, but he’s been an NHL callup since 2005-06. That makes him a bit older and lot more professionally experienced than some of these other kids. Even McBain who’s been in school for what, 2 years, is 4 years Howard’s junior. Its just apples to oranges to me.
