Habs Trade Jaroslav Halak to Blues
This afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens traded Jaroslav Halak to the St. Louis Blues for prospects Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. Halak is the goalie which took them to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Did they trade the right goalie?

If it hasn’t already been proven than this trade in conjunction with Niemi winning the cup with the Hawks solidifies, in my mind at least, that the era of the goaltender dominance is over.
As to the question, no, Montreal did not trade the right goaltender.
I just wish JR would have given up Ray Whitney for Lent.
It seems like they got almost nothing back. Lars Eller is good, but Halak was playing like an established Playoff goalie last year. I’m very surprised.
Which goalie gets hot in the playoffs is pretty much at random overall. Price is younger and there’s little reason to think Halak is any better. Neither have played a ton and MTL was crappier than usual in front of Price than Halak (Price faced better teams overall and MTL’s PP stunk it up a ton—Habs Eyes on the Prize had a post on this a few months ago).
So yes, I think they traded the right guy. Halak’s trade value will never be higher. They probably could have gotten more but Eller is one of the best prospects in hockey.
