Charlotte Checkers announce AHL Hockey Operations Staff

Daniels, Kinnear To Coach Canes’ Top Affiliate; Wilkinson Back In Front-Office Role

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Charlotte Checkers owner and CEO Michael Kahn announced today the team’s hockey operations staff heading into its inaugural American Hockey League season as the top affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Jeff Daniels was named as head coach and general manager, Geordie Kinnear as assistant coach, Brian Maddox as head athletic trainer and Jason McGrath as head equipment manager. In addition, [former and longtime ECHL coach for the Charlotte Checkers], Derek Wilkinson has been named senior vice president of hockey business operations.

and that’s encluding choach W…but what would have happened if they hadn’t asked 7 approved them?? what would the canes had done ? yes i need to stir the pot slowly !!! hehehe…stay kool…

So let me start by saying that I’m not the most knowledgeable about our AHL affiliate, but upon reviewing the Checkers roster on their website, I see no familiar names. Is this just b/c it’s the old roster from the ECHL days and hsan’t been updated, or did we lose the rights to some of the players when the team moved? Or am I just that far detached from our minor leaguers?

They haven’t converted the site to the AHL standard template yet. Not sure when it will happen – and I will note for you here when it does.

but don’t hold me to this but i thought i had read something here or maybe another blog or on the checkers page that sometime in July or August the new page & etc should,would or might be in place…Now to answer my own question…IF the curent owner/team COO didn’t want or did hire Daniels 7 etc…they like any other AHL team would go and lok for a coach they felt would suit their needs…now how or if that would affect the set up with the Canes & etc…I aint got a clue…but never the less I am happy as a loon in a lake full of fish that Everybody including Coach Wilkinson is and will be back …And i feel the Coach Wilkinson will be a good fit as a go between for the bench and the office…is it hot enough for everyone yet ? it be 93 here as i write this…sigh…
