Couple of other things…

As reported in a separate thread, some free general admission tickets for the preseason game on October 1st will be available tonight. Link here. Word is that all season-ticket holders will get tickets for this game in their ticket packages, no official word from the Canes but it was mentioned multiple times at Select-a-Seat this week.

Sounds like Canes Country will be representing :D

I’ll be there, y’all who know me know I won’t be sitting for long but I’ll bring a couple of chairs to hold places. I do plan to take pictures Steve, here are a few from last year’s event.

CC Section

I suggested to danicanes that we try to stake claim to an area up front and to the side away from the games to watch the State of the Canes and game replay. So look for the CC Section there.

Hrm.. we need a Canes Country sign… then it would be easier for people to find us….

This is like the 100th time this idea has been mentioned, but it never seems to happen. Anyone know a good graphics design place that could make a banner on the cheap? I know whenever I attend games, a couple of us regulars have a predetermined spot, but it’s always difficult to tell people where that spot is. Also, if it’s your 1st time you may not really know anyone there, so you’re never really sure. A large banner would be awesome.

Ticket price

Wow, you’re really lucky to got some hockey pre-season game totally free.

In the same way, the full season ticket are really cheaper then MTL.

In the first row, you will pay for a season ticket around 5800$(US), in MTL, you will pay
8 250$(us) + 15% taxe. Total 9500$(US) for the same ticket.

I think i will move in Carolina :)… and ask for my american citizen. :)

Come on down! :0) Though you’ll have to pay for your health care and won’t get government issued vacations days. Oh and pot is illegal.

What did Maurice have to say?

by abramsdoug on Jul 17, 2010 12:44 AM EDT reply actions

^^ RF’s photo link has a couple of nice videos of Maurice’s comments.

Keeping in mind that the three of them were on the stage for less than 10 minutes before the lightning chased them off, there wasn’t a lot said.

Maurice talked about the youth and how they had known for awhile that they were going to have to transition to a younger team but obviously it happened sooner than expected but also that he expected the team to be more effective sooner because of that. He mentioned that there were still veteran leaders but it was a group of much younger veterans.

Barrasso talked about the importance of keeping Cam healthy and also his very positive impressions of Justin Peters and his work ethic in getting to the NHL squad.

Joe had one chance at the microphone, he was pretty blunt about the Caps very short run in the playoffs, commenting that there were a few players on that squad that needed to grow up some in order to become contenders.

Thanks. RF’s photos worked great; but the video link didn’t work on my ipad. This season will be a chance for Maurice to prove he can coach young players and particularly young offensive-minded defensemen. Some Maurice critics have asserted he didn’t seem to be comfortable with young players. No doubt, we will see this season. I think Ron Francis, Tom Rowe, Fjeff Daniels, and Tom Barrasso all seem to like teaching young prospects, so I personally I am concerned about the issue of coaching young players.

Link works fine on PC w quicktime

RF’s link to Maurice works great on a pc using quicktime. I would have thought IPAD could handle a quicktime file. Interesting comments by Maurice.

What I Did This Summer, by Jeff Skinner

I DVR Sports Night on TWC every night because they have excellent Canes coverage (both main hosts are big fans).

Last night’s feature was, of course, Summerfest and in a second segment they had an interview with Maurice.

The big reveal within that interview for me was Mo mentioning that Jeff Skinner (really nice video footage shown while he was being discussed that focused on his footwork…Sk8er Boi, indeed!) was working out with Gary Roberts this summer.

I…am…impressed. And very encouraged. Gary Roberts has altered the careers of many pro players through the years, both physically and mentally. He could not be in better hands, in my opinion.

This kid is going to make such a difference for us. I don’t think we’ve ever had such a pure goal-scorer before.

I’d still be in favor of sending him back to juniors, after a good long look at him this Fall. I think in the long run, he’d have a much more immediate impact and a higher apogee if we follow that track.

But, he could play, all right, if needed. Especially after Gary gets through with him this summer. Fortunately, our log jam for playing slots will probably allow reason to prevail and afford the org the luxury of returning him sometime right before or during the big post-Europe road trip.

Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers.

Gary Roberts

It is great that Skinner is working with Gary Roberts. Roberts is truly an expert in speed skating and power training. I think the entire team would benefit from some Gary Roberts sessions, even though the Hurricanes training staff also have the reputation for excelling in the area of power training.

oh Bob – you missed out on all the fun. Especially the “let’s see how many CC folks we can squeeze under two umbrellas and still all get soaked” haha It was quite the bonding experience.

Fun times indeed. I’d also like to point out that during the downpour (prior to the lightning-induced mandate to seek shelter), the CC gang was one of only two groups to remain on the lawn. We are brave and hardy souls. Oh and maybe just a little bit crazy. :D
