Katherine Fritsch To Return as Anthem Singer For Fourth Year
Young Katherine Fritsch will return as primary anthem singer this season for the Carolina Hurricanes. This will be her fourth year as full-time singer for the organization. Now all of 11 years old, the singer is much more experienced than she was when she first graced the RBC ice to sing for the Carolina faithful.
At the present time, "KK" is one of ten singers under consideration to sing at an Atlanta Falcons game this coming season. The top vote getter(s) will earn that privilege. If you would like to support her with your vote, please follow the following link.
Atlanta Falcons Anthem Singer voting site.
Congratulations to "KK"! We look forward to seeing her again this season.

Good to see she’ll be back for another go-round, that girl has some pipes on her for being such a little thing.
Now if some of my fellow Caniacs would kindly refrain from trying to fit every name on the roster into the anthem I’d be much obliged.
Gotta yell JUSSI…..just got to……but thats the only one
Carolina Hurricanes! Your 2011 Stanley Cup Champions!
Funniest anthem yell I ever heard was someone yelling “Brett Hull!” after the word “Stars” at one of the Sabres games.

Oh that’s just mean! But oh so funny.
"What Carolina really has going for them is Brandon Sutter. When that kid first showed up, he looked like a skinny little thing that wouldn’t last two weeks. But he’s turned into a real star."
Jussi isn’t too bad at all, it works perfectly, but I noticed a trend toward the end of the season with people trying to fit in “Gleason” in place of “Gleaming”
I love Timmy, but that’s… just… fail
that little video just made me wish it were October a little more :( Good luck KK!!

It was kinda sad when I saw the close up of the bench and saw Brindy- season hasn’t even started and it seems weird knowing he won’t be there

KK
Seriously, my favorite anthem singer. Here’s why:
a) She doesn’t overdo it. It’s already a complicated song and doesn’t need to be drug out/oversung. She keeps it simple and doesn’t do a ton of runs. Good stuff.
b) Most young kids who sing are waaaaaay over the top and it seems forced. She sings it straight and simple.
Before I saw her sing for the first time at a Canes game I thought “oh boy, here’s another young kid singer who’s forced to sing by their parent’s”…but I was so pleasantly surprised. Glad to know she’s sticking around next year.
Blah. We need more people to go vote! Poor KK is only @ 2% of the vote right now!
"...they will not force us...they will stop degrading us...they will not control us...we will be victorious..."
Mah blog.
heck we voted twice!
my wife & i both did !!

KK rocks! I love watching new fans hear her sing. I was at a Pens’ game one year and there was this family from Montreal there for the first time. The dad and daughter both asked me how old she was. When I told them she was 10 at the most, they were shocked because she sang like “a 30 year old”. The pink cowboy boots also crack me up. :)

I love how she’s so serious while singing and then when she’s done, the very cute, little wave.
"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."
I can’t remember where I read it, but she’s extremely superstitious. She’ll only wear the pink cowboy boots and if the team wins that night, she’ll wear the same socks the next game. Very hockey player-esque in that respect. Of course I’ve also heard the rumor that some of the guys on the team think they’ll lose if she doesn’t sing the anthem. :)

I had not heard that but I don’t doubt it at all.
And how like our team to be superstitious about her singing. I can totally see our players being supportive of her. I doubt there are many anthem singers across the league that sit by the glass at warmups and get pucks and smiles and stick taps like she does. She’s a close knit member of a pretty tight family.

Yeah a lot of the guys are were old enough to be her dad and probably saw her as a surrogate daughter.

I love the cowboy boots and the wave too.
I also love being around someone who is at a game for the first time and has never heard her sing before. The look of amazement on their face is priceless. I hear she blows away the crowd at the Panthers games too.
Here’s a little fact about Katherine. She’s one of the most “interesting” subjects on my flickr site. She’s the second most popular search, and two of her photos are in my top twenty all-time views. She has quite the following and deservedly so!
Great to have her on the team again!

I think she has a great voice at times. Other times she totally emphasizes the wrong parts of the song. Granted, a little personalization is fine with me, but she is way too sharp at certain points. “What so PROUDLY” , she is WAY off on “PROUDLY”. I am not the only one who has said this. I also think she drags it a little too long at the end. I bet some people on here agree, but probably don’t want to say anything because people will be offended.
question
Who have you heard drag it out less than her? I’ve never heard anyone do less. Ever.
Also, in the poetry of the song, I would agree proudly would be the word you would emphasize. What word would you suggest?

sorry...
not trying to argue, just curious as those are the reasons I like the way she sings it (brevity and emphasis on the right parts of the lyrics)

I am not trying to come across as the bad guy either. Some of the transitions of her song stuck out to me the first time I heard her sing it. I try, but every time I hear her sing I always find myself hoping she smoothed it out a little bit. I would hope her coach could help her out. That is all.

have to agree with chrisbrasfield on this one. Something that I noticed the first time I heard KK sing the Anthem is how she sings it fairly concise and short. I dread when we have a replacement singer and they try to ‘jazz it up’ with some country or gospel rendition making it twice as long.
"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."

Heresy I know. She has gotten better, but is still not of sufficient caliber for a professional team. I would like to get someone else!!

It would be nice to change it up somewhat. I am a full STH and it would be nice to see more of a variety of singers.
I’d like to second this. I have no problems with KK. She’s improved over her first year so now it doesn’t really matter one way or the other if she’s there, but it would be nice to see a change of pace.
Is it possible to be addicted to hockey?
Ha.
We’d need to put a security detail out there for our over-30 guys.

I love catching the anthem on TV, and my friends who are over end up hearing her sing. I’ve had a couple sit down and watch a game just because they heard her.
I agree.
It is always nice to get the anthem in on any sports broadcast.

I think she does a good job, and it has been fun to see her progress over the years.
It’s getting old to hear people spell out all of the doom and gloom that they feel is going to befall this team this year, but to add complaints about KK’s singing? Please…………..
Is it October yet?

To be honest I am really not complaining that much. If you ask me overall if I like her and her voice I would say yes without hesitation. I was just being HONEST while a lot of people just give away over the top compliments way too easily.

Although I have been very irritated with the canes over the past few months, I gotta draw the line at ripping on the eleven year old girl with a gifted voice and bright future singing the national anthem in front of thousands of people. If that doesn’t strike you as speacial, than I don’t know what will
by PittsburghCaniac on Jul 23, 2010 2:22 AM EDT up reply actions
Who was ripping?
If you choose to put yourself and your performance on display in a public venue, it’s entirely appropriate that people would be constructively critical.

The words “constructive criticism” should not be in an eleven-year olds vocabulary, despite being injected into a public venue. I admit – I posted my comment with the sole purpose of supporting her, without ever hearing her live, but I did so because she is a young kid.
Did she really “choose” to put herself on performance, or was she “pushed” to do so – who knows, hard to say, shes 11.

or was that Chicago ? sigh…senior moments suck !!!

This girl rocks. Period. I hope she blows up the music industry if that is what she chooses to do, but my selfish side doesn’t want to share her with any other organization… she’s one of my favorite Hurricanes traditions. Oh, I voted for her, of course out of support. But, I hope she sticks around for the anthems in Raleigh… I can’t imagine a game without her.
She’s got a lot of talent, but she also has a ton of character… a lot more than your average 11 year old. She’s an amazing person with a bright future. She represents us well.
Update: From last night KK went from 2% of the vote, (last place), to 10% (fourth place) and she will sing at one of the games. The poll is now closed.
A big thanks to all of you who voted for her.
