WRAL has this – http://bit.ly/b8Qnoe but that might only be audio

"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."

As LTD pointed out, they got the Hurricanes emblem in the background there for the ASG logo.

from the article on hurricane.nhl.com

The 2011 All-Star Game logo was designed and created by the NHL and is property of the NHL. Here is the league’s description of its design:

"The primary color of the logo is a tribute to the Hurricanes and their legion of fans, the ‘Caniacs,’ who display their team pride by wearing red during home games at the RBC Center. Also, the holding shape is consistent with the Hurricanes’ primary logo. With the 2011 NHL All-Star Game being played in the state capital of North Carolina, Raleigh, and the popularity of the Hurricanes stretching well beyond the Triangle, inspiration for the banners along the top and bottom of the logo is derived from the official flag of the state of North Carolina."

"The increase in pain is way beyond what you would expect a person to play with," said coach Paul Maurice. "Unfortunately it’s even beyond what Tim Gleason can play with, because he can play with just about anything."

BTW – the NHLPA stole the Canes thunder when they announced they have filed a grievance with the NHL on the rejection of the Kovalchuk contract at 1:30. This ASG news will be buried for days outside Carolina.

Actually talking about it, or just a bunch of folks retweeting it? I’m still trying to get my arms around how much on twitter is real interest and how much is just folks trying to boost their tweet counts and grades and followers LOL.

Don’t remember seeing much in print except Puck Daddy’s Ric Flair on a pig suggestion.

PHT (NBC.coms’ blog) did a separate feature on it, and James O`Brien was really interested in it last night like this was a big deal today. Thought I saw something at TSN.ca too. I never quite figured out why Karmanos was coming to unveil a logo.

Very nice. They could have found another Western Star to balance out the league’s participants. I guess nothing was mentioned about ticket prices.

Is it October yet?

by hotchipsnsalsa on Jul 26, 2010 2:05 PM EDT reply actions

Awww man….. Did they really have to put Alex “The Missing Link” Ovenchicken on the poster? He’s so ugly he makes me shiver every time I see him. UGH!! Other than that I really like the poster.

Just got back. Not a lot more to report. Jim Rutherford said that season tickets were selling briskly and they have not sold this many at this point in the offseason since after the Cup win.

They are very excited about the team this season.

I’ll post video and more pics later tonight.

STH sales being strong is great

The STH sales are really the key to making the next big step for the Hurricanes team and fans. The fact season ticket sales are strong is fantastic news. I really hadn’t even let myself hope that would happen.

One thing from the WRAL article I wasn’t sure about. One of the last paragraphs seemed to say that, in order for part of the proceeds to go to the Canes, merchandise would have to be purchased a month or more before the game. Does anyone know if that is true, and if so, is that standard?

by ncyankee on Jul 26, 2010 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

I heard the same thing from the manager for the Eye a couple of months ago. Once it’s a month from the game, the NHL gets all the proceeds. Before that the Canes do … so shop early!

by CCRE on Jul 26, 2010 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

heh – I just read that too and was coming here to post it.

Yup – the take away from that is anyone wanting ASG merchandise should by it before Christmas.

What about jersey’s/shirts with the participants on it? Does all of that go to the league since that info won’t be out until less than a month before the game?

Is it possible to be addicted to hockey?

I’m curious, too, does that mean if they order a bunch of stock in to the eye the month before, they get the revenue, or is it based on the time of retail sale to the consumer?

Wouldn’t you think Pre-Orders must go to the Hurricanes organization? Looks like I know what I’m sending to family and friends for Hanukah.

What about some early autograph sessions

It would be pretty cool for the Hurricanes to arrange early season autograph sessions with a special emphasis on the ASG merchandise.
